About Us

The Department of Western Technology Services (WTS) is a central source committed to providing high quality, cost-effective technology solutions and services to the campus community in support of the teaching and research missions of the University. WTS works collaboratively with other IT groups within Western’s faculties and support units to leverage central supported technology solutions and services where appropriate.

The Instructional Technology Resource Centre (ITRC) is a support facility for faculty who wish to integrate technology into their courses. For more information about the ITRC visit https://itrc.uwo.ca/.

The ITRC performs the following roles:

  • Produces multimedia content for use in instructional content
  • Assists with video capture of live events, conferences, and lectures
  • Advises on instructional design and media best practices
  • Provides information on various instructional technology tools

The ITRC operates within the Client Services area of WTS and works co-operatively with the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL), Continuing Studies, Distance Studies and Western Libraries to address the need for support for instructional technology.

The ITRC is a facility equipped with current hardware and software to be used for the creation of digital media materials The ITRC encourages faculty and staff members to make use of the services offered to design their own instructional components.

The ITRC employs student consultants who work directly with faculty on specific projects to create online or multimedia instructional material. Proposals are submitted to the ITRC and reviewed based on a specific set of criteria. Projects meeting these criteria are assigned an ITRC student consultant who will provide the technical expertise required for the creation of the online learning materials.

Responsibilities

As a Digital Media Designer, you will work with clients to create instructional media content, which can include, but is not limited to, interactive modules, graphics, websites, animations, videos, and audio assets. In addition, Digital Media Designers will provide technical support, write documentation, and assist in training for various technologies at Western. The role will have responsibility for carrying out activities which require some specialization of skills. The role will be responsible for providing support to faculty or staff, and for effectively carrying out a variety of tasks in accordance with policies, procedures, and instructions received from their supervisor. The role will take guidance from their supervisor and work productively and courteously with their work team and other members of the Western community.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Must be a student returning to studies in the fall

Experience:

Successful candidates should be proficient in at least one (1) of the following skillsets:

  • Video Production and Editing (Video DSLRs, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Final Cut Pro)
  • Audio Production (Recording Hardware, Audition, Audacity, Logic)
  • Learning Module Development (Storyline, Captivate, Rise, Pressbooks)
  • Graphic Design (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
  • Photography (DSLR Cameras, Studio Lighting, Photoshop, Lightroom)
  • The following skills and interests are considered assets:
  • Web Design (HTML, CSS, WordPress, CMS) 
  • JavaScript (JS)
  • Technical writing
  • Customer service experience
  • Project management experience
  • Training/teaching experience
  • Interest in new media and technologies
  • Interest or experience creating 3D objects for animation, virtual and/or augmented reality

Skills, Abilities & Expertise:
