Job Description

The Associate Manager is responsible for guiding a team of communications specialists across three office locations who are dedicated to winning and onboarding new business for Group Customer. The team works closely with marketing and design as well as the National Accounts sales team. The team supports custom client requests for some of Canada Life’s largest group clients, often their brands. 

 

The team is collectively responsible for new business proposals, change management communications, creative campaigns, presentations and general business communication for Group Customer’s external audiences – consultants, advisors, sponsors and members. You and your team are relied on to create engaging materials that persuade readers to take action.  

 

As a people leader you’re accountable for coaching, skill development, workflow and performance. In partnership with other people leaders in Marketing and Communications you’ll foster a culture of accountability, ensure focus on priorities, foster effective collaboration and apply your critical thinking skills to problems and challenges. 

 

You also contribute to projects by crafting communications content across a variety of media.  

 

The team is in London, Winnipeg and Toronto. We’re accepting applications in the London and Winnipeg regions. Our current work policy is hybrid. Occasional travel is required.

 

What you’ll do every day:

  • Oversee workflow across the team, prioritize accordingly  
  • Consult on the team’s work, offering strategic oversight and proactive solutions 
  • Support team members’ ongoing development through regular coaching  
  • Provide guidance on tactics and delivery options 
  • Identify new opportunities for efficiencies (for example, change processes that improve organizational performance) and operationalize them where appropriate 
  • Develop and execute a variety of strategic, creative, high-quality marketing communications campaigns and tactics 
  • Ensure communication and brand consistency?? 
  • Craft content and copy that’s clear, compelling, well-timed and appropriate for the audience? 
  • Provide guidance on tactics and delivery options? 
  • Identify new opportunities for efficiencies (for example, change processes that improve organizational performance) and operationalize them where appropriate 
  • Advocate for new communication capabilities to elevate delivery excellence 
  • Brief media teams (print, digital, video), business partners and outside vendors? 
  • Co-ordinate and deliver high-quality work ?? 
  • Present to various internal audiences to lead and persuade? 
  • Provide communications expertise and guidance to field sales and service teams? 
  • Foster collaborative relationships across functions and Group Customer 
  • Share information across Marketing and Communications 

 

What you’ll need:

  • 5+ years of experience in communications, writing, or public relations? 
  • A degree in English, Journalism or Media and Information and/or a post-secondary diploma in Communications?? 
  • Previous people leadership experience in communications preferred 
  • Strong demonstrated business writing and marketing writing  
  • Demonstrated negotiation skills? 
  • Strong project management skills 
  • A strong ability to develop and maintain relationships across geographies 
  • Comfort in a fast-paced environment  
  • RFP and/or change management experience an asset
