We are looking for a talented Test Automation Engineer to join our Digital Assurance Solutions team. Our Digital Assurance Solutions team plays a key role in application delivery at Canada Life. As a test automation engineer in this role, you are able to understand enterprise environment contraints, developing and testing enterprise applications, and have a unique ability to translate and implement best practices by leveraging testing automation tools and capabilities to integrate with CI/CD frameworks in a DevOps environment.

 

What you will do

  • Engineer the test automation solution that best meets business/client requirements 
  • Analyze enterprise systems and functional/QA, SIT, and UAT test cases to determine testing requirements, use cases and design recommendations
  • Work closely in a cross-functional environment with development and performance engineering teams to align with and support enterprise testing and application delivery
  • Perform prototyping of solutions, making recommendations to business and technical stakeholders
  • Design, build, maintain, and manage testing automation solutions while maintaining accurte documentation
  • Install, configure, and maintain testing automation frameworks and environments
  • Troubleshoot technical and integrated solution implementation issues and recommend appropriate remedies and identify areas of opportunity to improve our processes
  • Contribute product and solution expertise and provide project planning support as required
  • Serve as a mentor to others on a variety of teams, acting as a subject matter expert in automation testing strategy
  • Help build the knowledge base in QA communities - including lessons learned, best practices, innovative tools and methods

What you will bring 

  • A degree or equivalent experience in a related discipline such as Computer Science, Business Computing or Engineering
  • 5+ years experience with testing automation tools and technologies
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of quality insurance, including black box, gray box, white box testing; requirements analysis, test planning, reporting and root cause analysis
  • Strong undertsanding and knowledge of system, integration, regression and user acceptance testing; familiarity with testing tools to include functional tools and test case management
  • Proven experience in developing, implementing, and managing automated functional, load, performance, stress and capacity testing solutions in a complex enterprise environment
  • Hands on experience with OO programming languages (JAVA preferred) and scripting languages such as Java, Javascript, Beanshell, Python
  • Hands on experience with using DB applications and SQL programming languages (SQLServer, SQLExpress, Oracle, DB2)
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of SDLC across all phases - working experience in SDLC methodologies such as Agile, Scrum, and Waterfall
  • Strong desire to implement change and contribute to the organization
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability and desire to create quality documentation
  • A demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Effective internal consulting skills with a strong customer service orientation, including the ability to identify automation and orchestration opportunities and drive adoption
  • Attention to detail and effective planning and organizational skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
