Position Purpose

Director, Learning and Development will be responsible for assisting with the planning, research, development and creation of training materials for the organization. They will also be responsible for delivering a number of training sessions to both employees and managers. Public speaking will be a large part of this role and therefore applicants should be comfortable presenting in front of both small and large groups.

The ideal candidate will have high quality design, delivery, and communication skills. If you are someone who is eager to learn, enjoys researching and understanding a variety of topics, and can build great training decks and other materials, this may be a great fit!

Duties & Responsibilities

Learning Design (45%)

  • Build and create engaging teaching materials, learning activities, instruction manuals, and training courses in e-learning or hybrid environments.
  • Partner with key stakeholders and subject matter experts across the organization to identify target audience learning needs and ensure learning assets meet business requirements.
  • Ensure consistency across content/courses in terms of instructional design/approach, based on project requirements.
  • Work effectively as part of a team to adapt to changing demands of projects and ensure that the content development process runs smoothly.
  • Maintain in a company-wide focus on all employee and manager topics.
  • Design and deliver content for new and exiting manager training.
  • Assist in creating HR learning materials.

Delivering/Coaching/Mentoring (40%) 

  • Manage yearly individual career discussions with each employee. This involves staying educated on different paths within the organization and recognizing opportunities for employee growth.
  • Identify end-user training needs and recommend the appropriate internal/external training for the end-user.
  • Encourage employees to continue learning and developing skills through the use the programs offered by the organization
  • Provide follow-up coaching, ongoing support and refresher training as required.
  • Support a variety of stakeholders in the delivery of in-person and virtual training sessions.
  • Deliver regular training on a variety of topics for both new and existing managers.
  • Deliver the onboarding presentation for new hires (including a tour of our company website, an overview of programs offered, and where they can find resources).
  • Conduct 1:1 sessions with new hires to gather feedback on their onboarding and learning experience (first 3 months).

Admin/Coordination of existing L&D programs (15%)

  • Assist employees with the below listed L&D programs that are currently offered and answer questions as needed.
  • Maintain documentation and processes relating to current programs.
  • Buy-A-Book program – assist in ordering and expensing books for employees.
  • External Training budget – review and approve employee requests for use of the external training budget.
  • Scholarship program – assist in the application process and coordination of scholarship awards.

Education, Skills and Experience

  • HBA or Bachelor’s degree in business, Human Resources, instructional design, or an equivalent area of study.
  • 3-5 years experience in an Instructional Design or L&D role, preferred but not required.
  • Exceptional public speaking skills.
  • Able to communicate clearly and explain complex concepts.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Suite of products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
  • Adaptability in a changing environment.
  • Quality research skills.
  • Time management skills and ability to consistently meet deadlines.
