We are looking for a Director, Technology Operational Risk

 

The Director, Technology Operational Risk plays a key role in providing independent advice, oversight, and challenge of the first line of defense with respect to business unit operational risk and regulatory compliance matters with a focus on Technology Risk. This role works with key stakeholders to implement risk and compliance management frameworks and methodologies and ensure effective identification, measurement, management, monitoring and reporting of current and emerging risks.

The role will interface with senior executives across all lines of defense within the enterprise and requires exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. The role reports to the AVP, Technology Risk and has direct reports.

 

Accountabilities:

 

  • Coordinates with the first line of defense and other oversight functions to develop, implement, and continuously improve on risk management frameworks, policies, standards, and processes.
  • Assesses the adequacy and effectiveness of their business unit day to day risk management controls, and for opining on whether, based on independent monitoring, the controls are sufficiently robust to effectively mitigate applicable risk.
  • Assesses and monitors risks on new products/services and significant initiatives undertaken by the business unit using standard operational risk tools and processes and reports on the adequacy of risk mitigation strategies to risk forums and committees.
  • Promotes awareness of the Company’s risk management policies, regional standards, and applicable requirements within the business unit.
  • Reviews operational practices, controls, deficiencies, metrics, and other relevant information to form an independent view of operational and technology risks to generate meaningful and insightful reporting to be presented to senior leaders across all lines of defense.
  • Performs detailed analysis of key risk issues, with a focus on technology risk.
  • Maintains an industry view of the technology and data landscape, understands best practices and performance benchmarks, and monitors emerging technology trends.
  • Participates in Risk and Compliance committees and councils to share best practices, lessons learned and collaborate on initiatives.
  • Directly contributes to the evolution of Canada Life’s second line of defense technology risk management strategy and operating model.
  • Provides extensive subject matter expertise in key technology risk management areas such as information security, operations, IT Resiliency and technology delivery.

 

Qualifications and Competencies:

 

  • 5-10 years of experience in Technology areas such as information security, cloud computing, infrastructure, architecture, and/or engineering
  • 5-10 years of experience in the financial services industry (or other regulated industry)
  • 5-10 years of progressive experience within the area of risk, compliance, or governance specific to Information Services.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business Technology or equivalent experience
  • Strong Understanding of technology risk regulatory, and industry best practice (COBIT, NIST, ISO standards, etc.)
  • Proven ability to identify, analyze and translate risk in the context of what it means to achieving business objectives
  • Strong risk management and business acumen, with demonstrated aptitude for strategic, analytical, and critical thinking
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of risk and compliance methodologies and programs
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, including financial and business analysis
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple deliverables
  • Demonstrated ability to manage high-performing, agile and resilient teams and serve as an effective change agent and champion
  • Experience with ServiceNow GRC or other GRC platforms

The base salary for this position is between  $99,800 - $166,300 annually.  This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).  If you are selected to move forward in our recruitment process, your recruiter will be able to discuss additional details of our total rewards program with you.
