Job Summary

The Software Developer (P3) contributes to and influences all phases of the software development lifecycle through the analysis, design, implementation, verification, and maintenance of software solutions. This role works closely with Business Unit stakeholders to review requirements, validate designs, create work estimates, develop software, and verify product releases. The Software Developer also works in close collaboration with the Software Development Team Lead to define and implement best practices across all phases of the software development lifecycle. This position works on projects which require in depth knowledge, using their judgement to ensure projects are adhering to budgets, schedules, work plans, and performance requirements. The Software Developer may establish operational objectives and work plans and delegates assignments to subordinates as needed.

Core Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and code software applications from business and technical specifications
  • Develop and execute unit, component, and integration level tests to verify requirements are met
  • Perform code reviews to ensure quality, proactively identify defects, and recommend improvements
  • Investigate and resolve complex technical issues for assigned projects
  • Contribute to the creation of technical and end user product documentation
  • Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignment

Technical Lead Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop a detailed technical understanding of client needs and project requirements
  • Lead and coordinate day-to-day technical execution of on and offshore Engineering staff
  • Work with Architects to review and provide feedback for Software Design Documents
  • Act as the primary point of contact for Project Management status updates
  • Collaborate with technical stakeholders to create detailed work package estimates
  • Create, prioritize, assign, and monitor all software development tasks for assigned projects

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience, primarily using Java in production environments
  • Experience contributing across the full Software Development Lifecycle, with a strong focus on maintaining, enhancing, and supporting existing systems in a sustain model
  • Strong experience developing and maintaining Java applications using Spring and Spring Boot frameworks
  • Experience working with Java application servers and supporting long-running, business-critical applications
  • Experience with containerization technologies, including building, running, and supporting Docker-based applications
  • Strong experience with front-end development using JavaScript and TypeScript, including building and maintaining user interfaces with modern frameworks such as React and/or NextJS
  • Experience designing, developing, and maintaining both relational and non-relational databases
  • Experience using version control systems such as Git within a collaborative team environment
  • Experience with build and dependency management tools such as Maven
  • Experience with continuous integration and delivery pipelines using tools such as Jenkins or GitLab
  • Demonstrated experience and enthusiasm for leveraging AI tools and technologies to improve development efficiency, code quality, and operational support
  • Proven ability to provide informal technical leadership through mentoring, knowledge sharing, code reviews, and peer support, particularly in sustain or support-oriented teams
  • Exceptionally self-motivated and self-directed, with strong attention to detail and accountability for production stability
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across development, QA, and business stakeholders

This position has a starting salary range of $91,000 CAD to $95,000 CAD per year. This is the range we reasonably and in good faith expect to pay for the role at the time of posting. An employee’s pay within the range is determined by a number of factors, including relevant skills, education, qualifications, experience, performance, business or organizational needs, and geographic location.
