Salary Range:$68,699.00 To $85,874.00 Annually

The Role:

 

Job Function:

The Commercial Analyst supports the growth and quality of Mainstreet Credit Union’s commercial and agricultural lending portfolio by providing strong underwriting, analysis, and portfolio monitoring. This role works closely with Relationship Managers to prepare credit applications (New Money and/or Annual Reviews), conduct financial analysis, and complete annual reviews in alignment with credit policy and risk appetite.

The Commercial Analyst helps ensure disciplined underwriting, timely identification of risk, accurate documentation, and compliance with regulatory requirements. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Underwriting and Credit Analysis

  • Work collaboratively with Relationship Managers to ensure credit solutions balance member needs and risk mitigation.
  • Prepare, analyze, and structure commercial and agricultural credit applications in alignment with credit policy.
  • Conduct financial statement reviews, cash flow analysis, ratio interpretation, and collateral assessments.
  • Analyze financial and personal net worth statements, including debt servicing, working capital, debt-to-equity, and other ratios.
  • Evaluate appraisals, environmental reports, and other supporting documentation as required.
  • Ensure underwriting adheres to regulatory requirements and internal risk guidelines.

Portfolio Monitoring and Annual Reviews

  • Complete and coordinate annual credit reviews within established timelines, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Conduct reviews of commercial accounts as required, including margining.
  • Monitor assigned portions of the portfolio for emerging risks, covenant compliance, and performance trends.
  • Assist in identifying accounts requiring enhanced monitoring, including Watchlist candidates, and ensure timely escalation and follow-up.
  • Maintain accurate financial information and member data within internal systems to support reporting and portfolio oversight.
  • Support risk mitigation plans in collaboration with Relationship Managers and senior credit staff.

Risk Management Support

  • Apply disciplined underwriting principles to support a consistent credit culture across the commercial lending function.
  • Assist in preparing reports and portfolio summaries related to performance metrics, early warning indicators, annual review status, and other key lending data.
  • Elevate credit concerns or early warning signs to appropriate team members to support timely risk mitigation.
  • Support adherence to regulatory requirements and internal credit policies throughout the underwriting and review process.

Operational and Administrative Support

  • Assist with follow-up on outstanding financial reporting, documentation, and information required for underwriting or annual reviews.
  • Ensure all loan files and credit documentation are complete, accurate, and audit ready.
  • Work with Commercial Lending Administration to compile portfolio reporting and ensure required information is submitted and tracked appropriately.
  • Support the use of lending tools, reports, and developing technologies that enhance accuracy and efficiency.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field; or equivalent working experience
  • 3 - 4 years of experience in commercial/agricultural lending, credit analysis, or related financial services roles, with a focus on Agricultural lending
  • Strong understanding of commercial credit underwriting, financial analysis, and collateral evaluation
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial statements and identify key risks.
  • Working knowledge of credit policy, lending processes, and regulatory expectations.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, financial analysis tools, loan origination systems, and relevant lending reports.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of clear and concise credit memos.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
