Junior Data Analyst
About the job
About Orca Intelligence Orca has been providing freight audit and analytics services to its’ growing client base since 2016. We have experienced tremendous growth since inception and are proud to offer our solution to some of North America’s largest organizations. Orca processes Billions of dollars in freight invoices each year for clients and provides invaluable reporting and analysis to help our clients operate more efficiently. Orca was awarded London’s prestigious ‘Medium Business of the Year’ award for 2024 by the London Chamber of Commerce for tremendous growth and community involvement.
About The Role We're looking for a Junior Data Analyst to join our Data Management team. You'll work directly with freight and audit data across multiple client accounts — extracting it, validating it, shaping it into Power BI reports, and helping internal teams and clients understand what it's telling them.
This is a hands-on role where you'll be writing SQL and working in Power BI from day one, not waiting months to get access to real data. You'll also contribute to client-facing work, including Quarterly Business Reviews where your analysis directly supports the story we tell clients about their freight performance.
We're building our data practice, which means there's genuine opportunity to grow here. The right person is detail-oriented, curious about the business behind the numbers, and motivated to develop their skills in a team that takes data quality seriously.
What You'll Do
- Write T-SQL queries to extract and prepare data from our Azure SQL and Microsoft Fabric environment
- Build and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards for internal stakeholders
- Use Power Query and basic DAX to shape and transform data for reliable reporting outputs
- Validate data for accuracy and completeness — and flag issues before they become problems
- Analyze data across multiple client accounts using Orca's audit platform to support performance tracking
- Support the preparation of Quarterly Business Review (QBR) materials, helping communicate freight spend trends, carrier performance, and audit outcomes to clients
- Respond to ad hoc data requests from across the business
- Help maintain data documentation and reporting standards in Confluence
- Learn Orca's freight data model and develop a working understanding of how audit and billing logic drives our data
Qualifications
- Working knowledge of SQL — you can write a query, filter, join, and aggregate without hand-holding
- Exposure to Power BI or a comparable BI tool, including basic report building
- Familiarity with Power Query or DAX (even basic) is a plus
- Strong attention to detail — you check your own work before sending it
- Clear communicator who asks good questions before diving in
- Comfortable in an environment that doesn't have all the answers yet
Nice to Have
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric or Azure SQL
- Familiarity with Python (pandas/numpy) for data work
- Exposure to ETL tools or data pipeline concepts
- Experience in transportation, logistics, supply chain, or freight — you'll ramp up faster and the domain will be immediately interesting to you
