About the Role

This exciting opportunity is based in the charming town of St. Thomas, Ontario, and requires in-person attendance.

Reporting  to the Manager, Construction Static Architecture  this position will support the project owner by overseeing and ensuring the successful completion of a large, complex construction project. You’ll provide on-site construction scheduling support, keeping a close eye on key project constraints such as time, budget, quality, and safety. Your responsibility is to be the owner’s eyes and ears, reporting progress and ensuring that the project aligns with their vision and objectives. The candidate will represent the Owner’s interests for the project, regularly working with the Owner’s site team, contractors, subcontractors, and local officials in an effort to ensure that project goals and scheduling milestones are achieved.

This opportunity is within Operations department and may require you to travel up to 90 days/year for trainings and workshops domestically or internationally during the first year of employment.

Key Responsibilities

•    Member of the construction site team in St. Thomas
•    Responsible for build-up our Gigafactory in St. Thomas, Ontario. In detail, this contains:

  • Aligning the design of our factory with the standard factory team
  • Independent optimize and define local user requirements for our buildings and connection points with municipal utilities
  • Leading the process for tender document creation, hand-over to purchasing department and bidding phase for a certain building and supporting the process for all other buildings
  • Technical evaluation of construction offers and finalize purchase order within the PowerCo committees
  • Coordinate construction companies on our property in general with support of internal and external partners
  • Accompany the release of the construction work and solve open points with construction companies
  • Handling independently claims from the construction companies

•    Overall coordination and scheduling of construction milestones considering all interfaces (e.g. equipment installation, start of production etc.)
•    Coordinating all external consultants as client representative on our site
•    Scheduling and monitoring assigned tasks and projects to internal and external stakeholders
•    Self-driven preparation of project reporting for project and top management level
•    Representing technical topics for the whole plot to the project team
•    Conducting and support internal team members by site inspections to manage progress and deliver progress reports
•    Aligning general topics with the headquarter function
•    Be the contact person in a center of excellence for our worldwide construction sites
•    Prepare internal and external audits independently
•    Performing other tasks, as required.

What you bring to the Team

•    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (ABET or Engineers Canada) in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Architecture, MEP engineering or some other construction-related field of study, or equivalent.
•    P.Eng. or P.E. preferred but not required
•    5+ years working in the construction industry (i.e., engineering-, architecture-, or construction-related, or equivalent), with execution or planning of industrial facilities
•    First disciplinary leadership experiences will be a plus
•    Well organized and experienced in set up of overall schedule and tracking of milestones of huge construction projects required
•    Able to work safely on an active construction site in accordance with the Health & Safety Plan.
•    Able to predict potential problems and solve them using logical approaches and analytical thinking.
•    Detail oriented and will diligently ensure that components of the project meet the overall goal.
•    Proficient in workflows, and quality control/quality assurance.
•    Occasional travel within Ontario, as well as internationally (high travel amount at the beginning of the project to see reference projects, when local construction starts travel amount will be reduced drastically)
•    Can collaborate effectively with team members and organize activities that delegate work efficiently.
•    Can communicate in a professional manner with team members both verbally and in writing, also from other discipline.
Desired Skills
•    International mindset and strong interest in global work and diverse teams
•    Experience in LEAN methods would be considered as an asset
•    Experience in Oracle / Aconex and with AutoDesk products would be considered as an asset
•    Experience working specifically on large projects (>100MCAD).
•    Experience working within large, complex project teams and actively participating in construction meetings.
•    Understands the nuances of the design and construction process.
•    Fluent with the MS Office suite (i.e., Office, Excel, PowerPoint).
