Feel free to indicate your availability on your application.Job Description The Computer Modeling and Simulation (CM&S) role has the responsibility to provide CM&S capability and support to GDLS-C design teams and Internal Research and Development (IR&D) personnel to ensure functionality, optimum designs and compliance with requirements by running and interpreting computer simulations of GDLS-C vehicles and subsystems, competitor’s vehicles and vendor’s products. In order to fulfill this responsibility CM&S personnel collaborates with designers, IR&D personnel, test team, Project/Systems Engineering to arrive at optimal designs within allocated scope and budget. CM&S personnel is responsible to maintain and advance state of the art computer modeling and simulation capability at GDLS-C by constantly researching and implementing new simulation technologies, methods and procedures. Key Job Elements
  • Perform advanced computer simulations of military vehicles and subsystems
  • Conduct research of new simulation techniques applicable to GDLS-C products
  • Perform vehicle mobility studies
  • Perform vehicle dynamics simulations
  • Perform structural analysis
  • Conduct material fatigue simulations
  • Create advanced controls system models to evaluate various controls algorithms and strategies for automotive systems
  • Interact with design teams and provide efficient and timely simulation support to product development, drive design solutions based on simulation results
  • Develop in-house software to solve dynamic problems using high level programming languages
  • Write technical reports
  • Provide support for R&D validation testing (i.e. prepare test plan/report, perform data reduction/analysis)
  • Provide technical support and guidance, within field of expertise, to Design Engineers during design development, e.g. advising on structural design
  • Support new product development with simulations and analyses
Required Qualifications
  • Pursuing University Degree or College Diploma in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering or a related field
  • Interest in computer modeling and simulation field
  • Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Basic computer skills in MS Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to travel (5% Cdn) and (5% US & International) and possess/be able to acquire and maintain a valid passport
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of automotive and off-road vehicle design, automotive controls systems, fatigue/durability analysis
  • Interest and familiarity in one or more of the following:
  • Multi Body Dynamics (MBD) Simulation Software (MSC ADAMS)
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Simulation (NX NASTRAN, Altair HyperWorks)
  • MATLAB/Simulink
  • Familiar with NX NASTRAN, Altair suite of FEA tools, ADAMS, MATLAB
  • Knowledge of Glyphworks
