The Role

Step into a dynamic Controls Specialist role, where you’ll be at the forefront of automation innovation. Here, you’ll tackle complex client challenges, design and deliver cutting-edge solutions, and oversee high-impact projects from concept to completion. Your expertise will help shape superior client experiences, as you collaborate with a passionate internal team to bring vision, energy, and intensity to every engagement—exceeding expectations and driving the future of automation

 

Key Responsibilities

As a Controls Specialist, you will contribute meaningfully to projects and initiatives while continuing to build depth in your core skill areas.

  • Deliver assigned tasks, subsystems, or work packages with increasing autonomy and accountability.
  • Leverage your hands-on experience to diagnose issues and implement practical, value-driven solutions.
  • Partner closely with senior team members and project leads to deliver results.
  • Contribute to planning, design reviews, and delivery discussions with a focus on scope, quality, and outcomes.
  • Assist with testing, implementation, commissioning, troubleshooting, or deployment activities as relevant to the role.
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and, when applicable, customers or external partners.
  • Adhere to company standards, processes, and safety or quality requirements.

 

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Post-secondary degree in Engineering from a recognized engineering faculty or equivalent qualification
  • 3-5 years’ experience in the Automation industry as an Engineer or Technologist, technically delivering on projects
  • Proven track record in the design, procurement, programming, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of control systems.
  • A proven self-starter with a positive, “can-do” attitude who is motivated by solving complex challenges
  • Strong client-focused approach, dedicated to providing exceptional client experiences to our internal and external customers
  • Ability to multi-task, exercise good judgment and prioritize workload through outstanding organizational skills
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment
  • Willingness to travel or adjust work hours as required for the role. Controls Specialists at Convergix should have the ability to travel within the US and Canada

 

Desirable

  • Experience in Food & Beverage, Automotive or Agriculture industry
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to engage, motivate and develop a team to achieve results
  • Experience in the any of the following platforms and/or technologies:
    • PLCs: Rockwell, Siemens
    • HMI’s: Rockwell Plant PAX, Aveva InTouch/OMI
    • Instrumentation
    • VFD’s and Servo’s
    • Network design and implementation

 

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to feel objects, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, talk and hear.
  • Occasionally lifts or move up to 25 pounds.

Compensation
Competitive hourly range: $31.25 – $48/hour, based on experience.
