About Western
Western University’s vision is to be a destination of choice for the world’s brightest minds seeking the best student experience at a leading Canadian research university. Combining more than 1,400 full-time faculty, 2,700 full-time administrative staff, and 37,700 full-time students, Western has established itself as a globally recognized destination for academic excellence and leadership development achieved through learning and research. Western prepares future leaders to succeed, providing life-long opportunities for intellectual, social, and cultural growth to better serve our communities.
About Us
The Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) team supports the digital platforms that enable essential HR and people-related services across campus—helping Western operate smoothly, securely, and with strong data stewardship. Our unit’s vision is to be recognized as leaders in human resource practices contributing to the success of Western and its people, adding value through proactive strategies, exemplary services, and technology-enabled collaboration.
As part of this work, our systems and tools support safe, reliable, and secure computing environments; enable self-service access for leaders and employees; support integrated processing across departments and service providers; and help mitigate the risk of data breaches while supporting business continuity through resilient technology solutions.
Responsibilities
The System Developer/Analyst is a hands-on technical role focused on designing, analyzing, testing, implementing, securing, and maintaining applications, information systems, and websites that support Western’s operational and statutory programs.
In this role, you will provide system and project support across key platforms that serve campus-wide needs, including Parklane (supporting incident reporting, investigations, disability management, accommodations, and WSIB reporting), OSCAR Pro (supporting electronic medical records, online booking, appointment schedules, referrals, and scanned documentation), and Work Safe at Western (supporting functionality such as training records, inspections, dashboards, lab self-service portals, incident reporting, and compliance calendars). You will help ensure integrations with Western’s enterprise HR information system (PeopleSoft Human Capital Management) are reliable, secure, and well-controlled.
You will contribute to the development and improvement of systems used by campus partners and the broader Western community, including system design and configuration, project coordination and delivery, security and access controls, data readiness and integrations, vendor and stakeholder collaboration, and ongoing system support and troubleshooting. You will also lead and support small-to-medium system initiatives while contributing to larger enterprise projects.
You’ll join the team with opportunities to learn from experienced systems professionals while helping shape the next phase of HR digital services at Western. This role is well suited for early-career professionals or systems developers who are eager to build expertise in enterprise HR systems within a collaborative team environment. The System Developer/Analyst focuses on hands-on development, configuration, testing, system administration, and project support, working closely with senior system leads and business partners to implement reliable and secure solutions. This position offers the opportunity to learn PeopleSoft and other HR digital tools through structured work, mentorship, and participation in enterprise-wide projects that support Human Resources services across the University.
This role works on-site at Western University in London, Ontario, supporting close collaboration with HR, technology partners, and campus stakeholders.
Why this Work Matters
The platforms you help develop, deliver and protect, allow the university to meet compliance responsibilities that affect the entire campus. Your work helps ensure secure, timely, and accurate processing; strong data controls; and a reliable experience for tens of thousands of faculty, staff, and students who depend on these systems every day.
Qualifications
As our ideal candidate, you bring a strong foundation in systems thinking and problem solving, paired with an eagerness to learn and grow within a collaborative, purpose-driven environment. You enjoy translating business needs into practical, secure, and well-designed technical solutions, and you take pride in building systems that are reliable, intuitive, and trusted by their users.
You are comfortable working with both technical and non-technical partners, and your ability to communicate clearly allows you to contribute to business discussions, gather requirements, and support change. Your approach is thoughtful and analytical—you enjoy exploring how processes, data, and technology intersect, and you bring curiosity and creativity to improving how systems work together. Whether troubleshooting an issue or supporting a system enhancement, you demonstrate a consultative and collaborative approach, working closely with team members, clients, and vendors to deliver effective outcomes.
Your interest in enterprise systems, data security, system administration, and project work is matched by an organized and thoughtful approach, enabling you to manage multiple priorities and contribute to projects in a structured and reliable way. You understand the importance of data accuracy, privacy, and controls, particularly in systems that support people-related processes, compliance requirements, and institutional operations.
These skills are complemented by your undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, along with early-career experience (through internships, co-ops, or professional roles) in systems development, technical support, business analysis, or project work. Exposure to project management practices, system integrations, or enterprise platforms—and an interest in continuing to build those skills—would be considered an asset.
