Responsibilities
The Summer Student III - Minecraft Set Designer will be responsible for responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and building immersive environments within the Minecraft Education platform. The creations will be utilized for various purposes, including virtual events, educational content, gaming experiences (etc). The ideal candidate will possess a keen eye for design, architecture, and storytelling.
This is a remote position. On campus meetings may be required.
The key responsibilties include:
-Collaborate with project stakeholders to understand design requirements and objectives
-Conceptualize and design diverse environments, including landscapes, structures, interiors, and props, that align with project goals and themes
-Utilize Minecraft's building tools and mechanics to bring designs to life within the game environment
-Ensure designs adhere to technical constraints and performance considerations of the Minecraft platform
-Implement creative solutions to overcome challenges and optimize designs for visual impact and functionality
-Stay updated on Minecraft updates, trends, and community creations to continually improve design skills and stay relevant in the field
-Work closely with other team members, including faculty, IT developers, and project managers, to integrate designs seamlessly into larger projects
-Test and refine designs based on feedback from internal stakeholders and playtesting sessions
-Document all phases of the design within an application of WE's choice
Qualifications
Education:
- 2 years of post-secondary education, and be a student returning to studies in the fall, Engineering or Computer Science Student preferred
Experience:
- Proficiency in Minecraft and a deep understanding of its mechanics and building techniques
- Familiarity with relevant software tools for design, such as graphic editing software or 3D modelling programs is a plus
- Strong working knowledge of Python and other coding languages such as Java Script etc
Skills, Abilities & Expertise:
- Written and verbal communication skills to express ideas clearly, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience
- Ability to maintain a positive, outgoing attitude with genuine customer service orientation
- Reliable and dependable with the ability to consistently work assigned schedule
- Ability to apply critical thinking to evaluate information and make appropriate decisions
- Ability to apply creativity, innovation and resourcefulness to daily work
- Ability to follow detailed and/or complex processes and practices with high attention to detail
- Demonstrates integrity and works in accordance with Western¿s policies and procedures
- Ability to multi-task and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment
- Computer skills with Microsoft Office, with the ability to learn and use new software programs as required
- Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, students and the public
- Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
- Ability to work in a manner that is compliant with confidentiality requirements as applicable
