Job Description

Senior 3D Artist — Full-Time, 6-Month Contract

Location: Remote Type: Full-time, 6-month fixed-term contract Experience Level: Minimum 5 years industry experience

About Us

Helix Games is an independent game studio based in London, Ontario. Being indie means we move fast, we all pitch in where needed, and everyone's work has a direct, visible impact on the final product. If you like being a small but mighty part of a tight-knit team rather than a cog in a massive machine, you'll feel right at home.

The Role

We're looking for a Senior 3D Artist to help bring our upcoming title to life. You'll take concept art and design direction and turn it into polished, game-ready 3D assets (characters, environments, props, and more) while helping guide the overall visual and technical quality of the game. As a senior on the team, you'll also be a go-to resource for other artists, helping set standards and solve tricky production problems.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Modeling, texturing, and shading high-quality game-ready assets (characters, environments, props, vehicles, etc.)
  • Working closely with concept artists to translate 2D designs into believable, production-ready 3D forms
  • Creating and maintaining clean topology, efficient UVs, and optimized assets suited for real-time rendering
  • Rigging and/or collaborating with animators to ensure assets are set up correctly for animation (if applicable to your specialty)
  • Setting and upholding art quality standards, providing feedback and mentorship to other artists on the team
  • Troubleshooting technical art issues and working with engineers to solve pipeline problems
  • Balancing visual fidelity with performance constraints across target platforms
  • Contributing to look development, lighting, and overall visual polish

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in the video game industry as a 3D artist
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating high-quality modeling, texturing, and shading work
  • Proficiency with industry-standard tools (Maya, Blender, ZBrush, Substance Painter/Designer, or similar)
  • Solid understanding of game engine workflows (Unreal Engine preferred)
  • Experience optimizing assets for real-time performance without sacrificing visual quality
  • Ability to mentor and provide constructive feedback to junior artists
  • Strong communication skills and comfort collaborating across disciplines
  • Self-motivated and able to manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment

The Indie Reality (Read This Part)

We're a small studio, which means we all wear a lot of hats. While your main focus will be 3D art, you should be comfortable (or at least willing) to jump in on adjacent tasks when the team needs it. Resourcefulness goes a long way here. If you're the type who can problem-solve on the fly, pick up new skills as needed, and doesn't mind stepping outside a narrow job description now and then, you'll thrive in this environment. This isn't a AAA studio with fifty specialists - it's a small crew that gets things done together.

Details

  • Contract length: 6 months, full-time
  • Location: Remote
  • Start date: January 4th, 2027
  • Compensation: $25-35 - Dependent upon experience

How to Apply

Please send your resume, portfolio, and a short note about why you'd be a good fit to [email protected]. Portfolio links (ArtStation, personal site, etc.) are required - applications without a portfolio won't be considered.

We look forward to seeing your work!
