The HR Research Lead will lead and develop a small, collaborative team that creates member and data driven project-based practical research. They will provide practical guidance and insight through over the phone advisory service and on-line/on-site workshops. The Research Lead will also represent McLean & Company at HR conferences and events by delivering keynote presentations and/or facilitating roundtables.

Please Note: We are open to remote candidates located in Canada who are willing to work business hours in Eastern, Central, or Atlantic time zones. This role may periodically require after–hours work to meet the needs of clients in different time zones.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead project teams in the hands-on creation of innovative, practical solutions to support HR leaders with critical challenges they face. Conduct regular working sessions with project teams to assess research progress and to challenge the teams to develop innovative insights. Manage project teams to ensure project deliverables are met and that research meets McLean’s quality standards.
  • Contribute to thought leadership in the development of actionable insights. Lead community of practice meetings for assigned taxonomy for the purpose of research agenda planning; recommend and curate suggestions.
  • Participate in ongoing peer review (online and in person) to give and receive constructive feedback to continuously improve quality of research projects.
  • Coach and develop a small team of analysts engaged in research creation, client advisory services, and client workshops.
  • Deliver client-facing subject matter expertise, insights, and advice through advisory calls, workshop facilitation, consulting, and presentations.
  • Lead the scoping, development, and facilitation of workshops/custom advisory engagements to assist existing members in accelerating their HR projects.
  • Partner with our commercial teams to demonstrate “proof of concept” for our over-the-phone advisory services to potential clients, and to scope out client workshops and/or consulting engagements.
  • Find opportunities for continuous improvement of team processes, practices, and/or operations.

 Education and Experience

Essential:

  • University degree.
  • 7+ years of experience in Human Resources, with depth of knowledge in at least 3 of McLean & Company’s HR Taxonomy areas.
  • 3+ years’ experience in complex HR projects
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience as a people manager.

Desirable:

  • A specialized degree or diploma in Business, Psychology or Human Resource.
  • CHRL or similar HR professional designation.
  • Experience and familiarity with formal research methods.

Skills:

  • Ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial, flexible, rapidly changing work environment.
  • Proven ability to motivate, coach, empower, and performance manage staff to deliver organizational goals, while also delivering value back to employees.
  • Strong project and time management skills.
  • Proven ability to create frameworks around fuzzy or unstructured topics, to enable colleagues and clients with executable, practical solutions to HR challenges.
  • Thinks beyond the confines of traditional models to generate insights, recognize opportunities and find new and better ways to do things.
  • Demonstrated ability to make informed decisions that demonstrate a broader scope of contextual and business acumen, rather than just an HR focus.
  • Strong presentation skills, with demonstrated accomplishment as a facilitator of internal or external client group sessions.
  • Intellectually curious about the effect of HR on the business landscape, with a passion for continuous learning.
