About Us

The Western Communications team provides strategic advice to university senior leadership, faculty, staff and teams of internal and external communications staff across Western in order to build the university’s brand on a local, national and global scale.

Responsibilities

The Social Marketing Specialist will be the internal expert for brand marketing across social platforms, including paid media and brand content, communicating our brand story across channels and serving as a consultant to stakeholders across campus. The role will be responsible for the successful execution and delivery of paid social campaigns, including campaign set up, optimization and overall management. The Specialist will lead the day-to-day development and execution of social media marketing strategies and content with a goal of fostering brand reputation, engagement and cultivating brand loyalty. The role will enhance brand storytelling and engagement through always-on organic and paid social campaigns, and ensure we utilize the latest best practices across our social media channels. The role will also gather and analyze marketing data to provide recommendations for optimization, and to ensure plans are properly executed and delivered. Plans typically include analysis and recommendations on targeting, geography, scheduling, support level, strategic executions and budget.

Qualifications

Education:
-    Undergraduate Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism/Media or other related program
-    Relevant certification (e.g. Facebook Blueprint) is preferred

Experience:
-    5 years’ experience in social marketing development and planning, with a focus on content marketing and paid social
-    Experience in a post-secondary environment is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-    Advanced skills with digital media tools, content marketing and social media platforms
-    In-depth knowledge of social media best practices, processes, trends, and tools
-    Exceptional verbal, written and presentation communication skills and confidence addressing difficult situations
-    Ability to apply creativity and recommend strategies for engagement initiatives in response to cultural and social trends
-    Compelling and persuasive communication skills to engage individuals within the University
-    Strong attention to detail and proofreading abilities
-    Ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the organization, and to value consensus as a desired outcome
-    Commitment to ongoing professional development with a desire to take on new challenges
-    Ability to work within a flexible schedule to accommodate the University’s events and activities
-    Ability to produce high quality work while determining own priorities and defining realistic objectives and timeframes
-    Proven ability to build both formal and informal professional relationships within, across, and external to organizational boundaries
