About Western
Western University’s vision is to be a destination of choice for the world’s brightest minds seeking the best student experience at a leading Canadian research university. Combining more than 1,400 full-time faculty, 2,700 full time administrative staff, and 37,700 full-time students, Western has established itself as a globally recognized destination for academic excellence and leadership development achieved through learning and research. Western prepares future leaders to succeed, providing life-long opportunities for intellectual, social, and cultural growth to better serve our communities.
About Us
Within Human Resources, the Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) team plays a critical role in enabling the University’s people-related operations by stewarding enterprise systems that support payroll, identity management, recruitment, onboarding, employment equity, learning and development, labour relations, benefits, and leave administration. These systems underpin daily operations across campus and require thoughtful design, rigorous controls, and strong partnerships to ensure they operate securely, reliably, and at scale.
Responsibilities
The Senior Systems Analyst (PeopleSoft HCM) is a senior, hands-on systems leadership role responsible for defining, overseeing, and advancing the enterprise applications that support Human Resources services at Western. With primary accountability for PeopleSoft Human Capital Management (HCM) 9.2, this role leads the planning, maintenance, enhancement, and integration of critical HR systems that support over 25,000 employment and non-employment relationships and approximately $550 million in annual payroll activity.
In this role, you will provide functional and technical leadership across large-scale, enterprise initiatives—such as year-end payroll and benefits processing, the deployment of new employee and manager functionality, and system upgrades—ensuring solutions are aligned with HR strategy, institutional priorities, and technology standards. You will translate complex business needs into clear system requirements, guide development teams and technology partners, and ensure impactful solutions are delivered effectively and responsibly.
You will work closely with Human Resources leaders, project teams, Western Technology Services, and external vendors to lead and execute system integrations, maintain data integrity, manage security administration, and oversee system upgrades. In this role, you will oversee end-to-end technical work, guide system design decisions that balance risk, cost, and benefit, and ensure the protection of highly sensitive personal and financial data.
As a senior member of the HRIS team, you will also provide mentorship and direction to system specialists and developers, share expertise across the team, and remain current on PeopleSoft releases, Oracle enhancements, and emerging enterprise technologies—bringing forward new ideas and approaches that strengthen Western’s HR digital ecosystem.
This role is based on-site at Western University in London, Ontario, reflecting the hands-on, collaborative nature of enterprise system leadership and campus partnership.
How This Role Fits Within the Team
The Senior Systems Analyst (PeopleSoft HCM) is a senior, enterprise-level role with accountability for the overall design, stability, and advancement of Western’s core Human Resources systems. This role provides functional and technical leadership, sets direction for large-scale initiatives, and guides the work of system specialists and developers supporting PeopleSoft HCM and related integrations.
While the Senior Systems Analyst (PeopleSoft HCM) remains hands-on with system configuration, analysis, and troubleshooting, the role is distinguished by its strategic scope, responsibility for risk management and enterprise decision-making, and leadership of complex projects that have University-wide impact. Prior, in-depth experience with PeopleSoft HCM and enterprise HR systems is essential for success in this role.
Why this Work Matters
Western’s HR systems are core to the University’s operations. They support complex business processes governed by multiple collective agreements, legislative frameworks, and institutional policies, while integrating with numerous campus and external systems on a daily basis.
In this role, your work directly safeguards the accuracy, reliability, and security of people and financial data that faculty, staff, and leaders depend on. Your leadership helps ensure compliance, continuity, and confidence in systems that matter deeply to Western’s community and its ability to deliver on its academic mission.
Qualifications
As our ideal candidate, you are a seasoned enterprise systems professional with a strong foundation in Human Resources systems, ideally PeopleSoft HCM, and a demonstrated ability to lead complex technical work in large, diverse environments. You bring depth of experience, sound judgment, and the ability to see both the technical detail and the broader institutional impact of system decisions.
You are comfortable providing functional and technical leadership, guiding developers and system partners, and working collaboratively with HR leaders, project teams, and campus stakeholders. Your ability to communicate clearly and bridge technical and business perspectives allows you to influence decisions, resolve complex issues, and design solutions that meet organizational needs.
You approach challenges with a critical and analytical mindset, applying structured problem-solving techniques to assess requirements, evaluate options, and recommend effective and sustainable solutions. You have a deep appreciation for data integrity, privacy, security, and controls, particularly in enterprise systems that manage sensitive personal and financial information.
These strengths are complemented by your University degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, along with extensive hands-on experience supporting and enhancing enterprise-level applications. Your background includes providing functional leadership to development teams, working with relational databases, managing integrations, and supporting large-scale system upgrades. Experience with PeopleSoft HCM modules, PeopleTools, and enterprise integrations is an asset as these skills are critical to success in this role, as is a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
