Job Description
We are seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer(ing) to join our team. This position will play a significant role in designing and creating the next generation of innovative Audioscan products. You will design and develop the electro-mechanical assembly components for new and current products, with a strong emphasis on user centered design principles and design for manufacturing principles. You will be working alongside a multidisciplinary team of Software, Hardware, Mechanical engineers and technicians. You must be an independent and self-motivated worker requiring little supervision. This is a full-time position, operating on-site in Dorchester, Ontario. You will report to the Director of Research and Development.
Responsibilities:
· Adaptive and variant design of electro-mechanical packaging for new products.
· Ownership of project’s mechanical design from concept to release. This work will include analysis, design, prototyping, testing, production transfer, and post-launch support.
· Development of CAD models and drawings.
· Generate detailed drawings, BOM's, and inspection test plans.
· Design tests and build prototypes to test their function, including 3D printing.
· Collaborate closely with Marketing Department to help with product development activities and materials.
· Collaborate with suppliers for part selection, pricing, and prototyping. This may include occasional travel to supplier facilities as needed.
· Collaborate with a team of knowledgeable industry experts on the overall design and user interface.
· Provide product cost and development time estimates.
· Development of documentation to comply with development procedures, ISO, FDA, and other regulatory quality system requirements.
· Staying current with technology in applicable disciplines.
· Other related responsibilities as assigned at times during the product development process.
Experience and qualities:
· 5+ years of related industry experience.
· Experience designing and developing injection molded plastic parts.
· Very familiar with integrated electromechanical systems.
· Passion for developing design solutions and seeing them through to manufacturing.
· Creativity and desire to solve problems in a niche industry and apply a can-do attitude.
· Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects.
· Ability to prototype mechanical components, 3D printing, machining, painting.
· Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
· Ability to analyze design solutions, make optimal decisions, and identify problems.
· Ability to rapidly learn new technologies, technical material, and skills for operating new equipment and instrumentation.
· Experience translating user requirements into design specifications.
· Effective communication and organizational skills, with an attention for detail.
· Proficient with MS Excel, Word, Teams, PowerPoint.
· Proficient with 3D CAD tools, such as Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks highly beneficial.
· Experience with GD&T and tolerance stacks is an asset.
Educational Requirements
The successful candidate(s) must have the following qualifications:
Engineering Diploma or Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in:
B.Eng/BASc/BESc Mechanical, Mechatronics, Biomedical Engineering, Industrial Design or related field of study.
