The Role
We are looking for a software developer to join our Rules Development Team. The Software Developer – Rules will work directly with our insurance clients to develop and maintain auto and property rating and underwriting rules through an internally developed Rules Composer. The ideal candidate will have the ability to understand complex insurance concepts while offering a high-level of customer service.
This position can be performed from our office in London, Ontario or remotely within Canada. Remote-based employees may occasionally be asked to travel to our head office in London, Ontario for meetings or team building events.
Role Responsibilities
- Design and develop new and existing client rating and underwriting rules;
- Resolve client rating and underwriting issues;
- Meet with clients to analyze and gather requirements and identify solutions that enhance rating processes and insurance automation;
- Conduct analysis and testing;
- Work with senior team members to design solutions, including development of specifications to ensure quality;
- Create and maintain key documentation; and
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Experience working in the insurance industry;
- A degree or diploma in Computer Programming, or equivalent education and/or experience;
- Positive customer service skills; and
- Strong analytical skills, problem solving skills, and attention to detail.
Nice To Have
- A demonstrated familiarity with current software industry trends and emergent technologies.
- JavaScript frameworks/libraries, especially Angular;
- Java/J2EE/Spring MVC;
- HTML5/CSS3, especially Bootstrap and Responsive Design techniques; and
- Tools: Node.js/NPM/Yarn/SCSS/AngularCLI.
- OO analysis and design skills;
- JUnit experience;
- Agile experience;
- Knowledge of enterprise design patterns;
- COBOL experience;
- Deployments targeting Windows/CentOS operating systems; and
- Understanding of the Ontario Mutual Automobile Plan (OMAP) and the Centralized Auto Rating (CAR) rating engine.
