Role description 

 

Are you an AI and Machine Learning professional with focus on platform administration and support and strong Leadership and Communication skills looking for a challenging and rewarding opportunity? Canada Data Team is looking for a Machine Learning Platform Engineering Specialist to join our team.

 

The Machine Learning Platform Engineering Specialist is responsible for providing AI and ML platform and tool solutions to support business needs at Canada Life. Leveraging your Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) technical subject matter expertise, you will have the exciting opportunity to design, adapt, and maintain the ML and AI platform solutions within a cloud environment. You will navigate and reconcile considerations for immediate and future platform needs, encompassing but not limited to scalability, maintainability, performance, accuracy, reliability, security, compliance, cost, and robustness, even in situations where the requirements may be unclear or evolving. You’ll collaborate cross-functionally with the AI Product Owner as well as software and machine learning developers, data platform engineers, quality assurance, governance & support experts in Toronto and other offices. In this role, you will be part of an on-call rotation in order to service our customers.

 

What you will do 

  • Design and build highly scalable machine learning and AI platform solutions within a cloud environment.
  • Partner with our internal customers to understand their ML development pain points and craft platform solutions to address them.
  • Support the effort to build and enhance MLOPs services, including platform monitoring, platform, and deployment support for the respective pipelines for data delivery.
  • Connectivity enablement for relevant models and their data sources.
  • Deliver appropriate ML Resource Access Permissions for respective use cases.
  • Provide technical mentorship to data platform engineers and interns on the team.
  • Help shape the long-term strategy and grow the team.

What you will bring 

  • A University or College education in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years of experience building production machine learning systems or platform components such as feature store, model training framework, ML prediction service etc.
  • Strong coding skills in Python
  • Strong understanding of engineering and infrastructure best practices, general software development principles with a machine learning software development life-cycle orientation
  • Strong experience on Azure Machine Learning and AWS SageMaker, Azure Data Factory, Databricks administration and GitLab.
  • Experience managing the entire machine learning lifecycle.
  • Desirable experience on Azure Cognitive Services and AWS Rekognition.
  • Strong communication skills with an ability to motivate.
  • Customer focus and strong relationship management skills
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities and working within ambiguous situations.
  • Effective time management, prioritization, and decision-making skills
  • Reliability Status security clearance - this is a personnel security status that is required before an employee can gain access to Protected B information, assets or work sites as outlined by the Government of Canada  website

Given the size and scope of our organization, we have the flexibility for this position to be located in the following head office locations: Toronto, and London.

The base salary for this position is between $61,900.00 - $114,500.00 annually.  This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).  If you are selected to move forward in our recruitment process, your recruiter will be able to discuss additional details of our total rewards program with you.
