The Role 

We are looking for a highly motivated and results-oriented individual to join our Database Team. The Database Developer will be responsible for providing operational database services to internal and external clients, optimizing our enterprise software solution, and supporting our migration to the cloud. This role requires a service-oriented mentality, high sense of ownership of the tasks assigned and requests received, and a focus on managing and resolving issues within a team-based environment.

This position can be performed from our office in London, Ontario or remotely within Canada. Remote-based employees may occasionally be asked to travel to our office for meetings or team building events.

Role Responsibilities 

• Support and develop solutions in both on premise and cloud environments;
• Design and maintain SQL and NoSQL databases for new and current software applications;
• Develop schemas, tables, stored procedures, and deployment packages;
• Design, develop and maintain Data Fabric solutions;
• Provide database support to cross-functional teams across the company;
• Fix customer issues;
• Conduct testing and analysis;
• Collaborate with senior team members to design migration solutions, including development of specifications to ensure quality;
• Create and maintain key documentation; and
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• A minimum of three years’ Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) experience;
• A Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Computer Science or equivalent education, and/or experience;
• Strong SQL and PL/SQL skills;
• Strong database analysis and design skills;
• Proven diagnostic, analytical and problem solving skills;
• Strong attention to detail;
• Experience with SQL tuning;
• A demonstrated familiarity with current software industry trends and technologies (particularly around Database Management); and
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Have

• Experience as a Database Administrator (DBA);
• Oracle Cloud (OCI) experience;
• Experience with the following technologies:
  • Oracle and PostgreSQL RDBMS;
  • Linux/Unix scripting;
  • Docker; and
  • Operating Systems (Windows/Red Hat).
• Data Fabric experience;
• Skills in database performance tuning, diagnostic tools and techniques; and
• Insurance business knowledge.
