About Us
Innovation & Strategic Partnerships unites Western’s Technology Transfer Office, Strategic Partnerships, and Western Research Parks, driving the impact of Western’s research by fostering connections between research, industry, and communities.
As a Business Development Project Assistant, you will support both Western’s Technology Transfer Office and Strategic Partnerships by providing on-site assistance across a portfolio of projects.
Responsibilities
• Explores commercialization of University technologies and identify potential industry partners and receptors
• Assists in Technology Project Support and Evaluation, Market Assessment and Market Research, Developmental Risk and Competitive Environment
• Identifies potential industry partners, companies and markets for projects
• Performs technology literature research and competitive landscape analysis
• Assists in project and technology marketing, developing marketing materials, and supporting documents
• Assists the Business Development Team in day-to-day activities
• Assists in promoting innovation culture on campus
Qualifications
• Preference given to students enrolled in Science programs (Engineering, Computer Sciences, Statistics, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or related Life Sciences).
• Students currently in Business programs with some or prior Sciences experience OR in dual Sciences and Business programs are encouraged to apply.
• Undergraduate students are invited to apply. Must be a student returning to studies in the fall.
Other requirements
• Technical knowledge in Science related fields with some business understanding
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Self-motivated and self-disciplined with a "can-do" attitude
• Ability to work independently and in a team setting
• Familiar with database searching
• Familiar with MS Word, PowerPoint, and deep knowledge with Excel
• Preferred understanding of data management principles (which could include experience with ETL processes, SQL. Python R etc.)
• Experience with Microsoft Power BI (including Power Query) is an asset
• Experience or interest in basic front-end technologies (e.g. HTML, CSS, JavaScript) is an asset
