About Us

The Faculty of Information and Media Studies at Western University is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about media, communications and information.  We study technologies, systems, histories and practices to understand the role of media and information in democratic process and the social and cultural determinants of power and agency.  Across our programs, we foster two key capacities in our students:  the ability to think critically about the world in which we live, and the skill and confidence to make interventions in our communities and lifeworld.

Responsibilities

This part-time, remote Digital Engagement Coordinator role falls within the Project Coordinator/Manager category.

Reporting to the Communications Specialist, the Digital Engagement Coordinator will focus on maintaining an interactive FIMS presence on social media feeds throughout the summer, including on Tik Tok, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.  They will also assist with a project to rebuild a digital resource that is moving from one platform to another, requiring intermediate web development skills.  The Digital Engagement Specialist will additionally be required to perform video editing tasks and be able to assemble footage into shortform videos for use on social media and/or the FIMS website.  Critical skills required include:  expertise in developing content for multiple social media platforms, scheduling content, and monitoring feeds; intermediate-level skills in website building using the latest version of WordPress; proficiency in Adobe Premiere and other video editing software such as Adobe After Effects.

Qualifications 

Education:
-   Undergraduate Degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Business Studies or other related programs

Experience:
-   2 years' work experience in a related field in an academic environment

Skills, Abilities & Expertise:  
-   1-3 years experience preparing digital communications in a professional environment with a particular focus on coordinating social media accounts
-   Advanced skills with e-communication tools, including website and graphic design principles, website and campaign software such as Cascade, WordPress, Campaign Monitor and social media platforms
-   Ability to apply creativity and recommend strategies for engagement initiatives in response to cultural and social trends
-   Excellent attention to detail and proofreading abilities
-   Discretion, tact and maturity to deal with public relations issues related to higher education, including proposing nuanced, sensiteve resolutions
-   Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet tight deadlines and adapt to changing priorities
-   Demonstrated experience interviewing people, synthesizing complex information, and writing profiles, features, news items and/or web copy (writing samples required)
-   Intermediate knowledge of HTML, CSS and web development
-   Strong attention to detail, time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks and meet regular deadlines
-   Ability to maintain flexibility in thought, priorities, and task management
-   Strong interpersonal skills:  ability to exercise diplomacy, tact, and discretion
