Software Engineer

 

Pulse is seeking a Software Engineer to join the small software development team that builds and maintains our cloud-based platform that powers our products.  This position is primarily focused on back-end services and data processes and requires expertise in microservices, SQL, and data transformation.  We need candidates who have built complex, web-based applications and data systems with direct experience using Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Experience with clinical data models such as OMOP is helpful but not required. The Software Engineer will work with the rest of the software development team, product manager, and will report to the Chief Technical Officer.  We are seeking people who want to be individual contributors but also enjoy working as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement back-end methods for new features.
  • Lead design and implementation of systems for collecting data from disparate external systems and for normalizing that data into our common data model.
  • Define domain-specific metadata that required for those systems.
  • Design and maintain standard methods for authentication and authorization of data requests.
  • Profile existing code to discover opportunities for optimization, and design and implementation.
  • Review existing software components and recommend improvements.
  • Recommend process improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science/related field or comparable experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience developing software products.
  • Direct experience building software products with one or more programming languages including JavaScript/Typescript, Java, C#, C/C++.
  • Experience developing HTTP-based services and APIs.
  • Expertise in using SQL and other data storage systems.
  • Expertise in data transformations across systems and data modeling.
  • Experience with configuration and management of AWS environments.
  • Experience building systems that comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Self-starter, professional maturity, thrives in fast paced start-up environment, self-sufficient in highly technical environment, and discrete (patent pending technologies)
