The Practice Lead, CIO-Strategy Research, leads a team in creating and delivering client-driven, project-based, practical research and advisory that helps IT leaders drive measurable results in their organizations. The Practice Lead acts as the research and people leader responsible for the CIO-Strategy practice’s research projects and advisory operations primarily in the domains of IT Strategy, IT Financial Management, Digital Transformation, Enterprise Innovation, and/or Mergers, Acquisitions, and Divestitures.

The Practice Lead will maintain an active pulse on the needs of members as well as industry development, deliver exceptional service via calls and workshops, collaborate with other Leads within ITRG Research Management team, and oversee the high quality of CIO-Strategy research and solutions.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Using practical experience and knowledge to help CIOs develop their IT strategy and ensure that their key initiative plans fulfill all aspects of their mandate.
  • Helping CIOs take a leading role in guiding their organizations towards success in today’s Digital economy through thought-provoking research and best-practice deliverables. This includes providing them with advice and methodologies to set-up a digital innovation function and fostering the skills needed in IT to support enterprise innovation.
  • Informing CIOs of the most relevant technology trends, as well as the initiatives that their peers prioritize.
  • Advising CIOs on how to best fulfill their IT Financial Management duties, develop and manage their IT budgets, and show back value to the business.
  • Enabling CIOs with the tools and methods that they need to support the business both strategically and operationally on Mergers, Acquisitions, and Divestitures.
  • Leading a team of Analysts responsible for producing world-class research and supporting and engaging a dedicated set of Research members via online advisory support and on-site workshops, when safe to do so.
  • Leading the development of a best-practice research agenda on CIO strategy topics and growing advisory and consulting services provided to CIO members.

Areas of focus for this role includes:

  • Research.  As a Practice Lead, ensure that your team of analysts writes and publishes research designed to provide our members with what they need to be world-class CIOs.
  • Utilization. Leverage our research to assist CIO members through the process of executing on their key initiatives. Maximize the utilization of your analyst team that will be assisting clients through a series of structured calls, structured one-week workshops, or custom consulting engagements.
  • Service Quality. Ensuring that your team provides measurable value to our clients through the various services provided: research, calls, workshops, and consulting.
  • Account Renewal Rate. Work jointly with your team and the account managers to reengage customers with low service levels through targeted campaigns and outreach.  
  • Commercial Results. Identify opportunities to provide value to clients through workshops and consulting engagements and work with our commercial teams to define the scope and project outcomes.  

 

 Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree required (business or technology preferred) or equivalent experience. MBA would be an asset.
  • IT certifications as well as management consulting certifications are considered beneficial.
  • Significant practical experience (10+ recent years) working for IT Research and/or Consulting firms and supporting clients in some of the following domains:
    • IT Strategy
    • IT Financial Management
    • Digital Transformation
    • Enterprise Innovation
    • Mergers, Acquisitions, and Divestitures
  • Acquired experience and knowledge of the solution landscape and use cases for some promising emerging technologies, including but not limited to:
    • Cognitive Computing
    • Blockchain
    • Quantum Computing
  • Presentation and facilitation experience demonstrated through prior client-facing workshops, training sessions, and consulting engagements.
  • History of strong relationship building and management skills. Experience gaining and maintaining trusted advisor status with senior management and C-level executives.              
  • Experience mentoring, developing, and training staff.
  • Must be flexible and have ability to travel occasionally to deliver workshops onsite at client locations both within and outside of North America, when it is safe to do so. Must be eligible to obtain TN Visa for work with US clients.

  • Must be available for after-hours work periodically to service APAC clients.

  • Domain Expertise: Must have strong knowledge of some combination of IT Strategy, IT Financial Management, Digital Transformation, Enterprise Innovation, and/or Mergers, Acquisitions, and Divestitures.
  • Client Interaction and Facilitation: Ability to build rapport and communicate effectively with clients both virtually and in-person.
  • Leadership Qualities: Proven ability to motivate, coach, and empower team members to deliver organizational goals, while delivering value back to employees.
  • Project Management: Manage project scope, budget effectively, and report on project progress within a timely manner.  Ability to lead negotiations while managing scope and client expectations.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills: Writing skills are of paramount importance in the creation of polished and professional looking research and communications with clients.
  • Business Development: Generate advisory sales leads from interactions with clients, whether during analyst calls or during project work, and proposing Info-Tech Research Group’s services to fulfill Member’s needs.
  • Adaptability:  Ability to work within in a dynamic and changing environment.  Mentors and leads others through those changes.
  • Research: Apply primary and secondary research, along with superior analytical and written communication skills, to lead the team in producing high-quality, published research for our members.
  • Intellectual curiosity: investigate new topics or concepts or find new perspectives.
  • Event Speaking: Ability to present credibly, articulately, and confidently at Info-Tech’s own events or at external events and conferences.
