Job Description

The HR Generalist will be primarily responsible for a range of functions to ensure the company’s HR activities run smoothly. The HR Generalist will coordinate day-to-day HR activities to assist senior management, front-line management, and staff and will work to improve the efficiency of internal HR and Health & Safety processes, while also providing additional support in other areas as required.

NOTE: This opportunity has a full-time remote option for candidates residing in Canada.

Principal Accountabilities

Recruitment and Onboarding
  • Plan human resource requirements in conjunction with the management team.
  • Facilitate effective interview and testing processes to find qualified candidates for internal and external HR needs.
  • Conduct reference checks on the selected candidate and coordinate third-party background checks.
  • Implement and manage new hire onboarding and orientation programs.
Training and Performance Management
  • Plan and deliver training for new hires and new managers on corporate policies and procedures.
  • Review, track, and document compliance with both mandatory and non-mandatory training and assessments.
  • Assist with constructive performance evaluations and provide guidance and training for Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) actions where needed.
  • Participate in exit interviews and termination meetings.
Compliance Management and Employee Relations
  • Develop/Revise documents and tools to ensure continuous compliance and to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of HR processes and tools; make recommendations for implementing new applications where necessary.
  • Continuously monitor changes in federal and provincial employment laws and regulations and identify necessary changes to reflect best practices; maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, new HR technologies, talent management, and employment law.
  • Provide support to the JHSC in carrying out their duties by providing expertise and guidance on the requirements under the OHSA and related regulations.
  • Develop/Revise documents and resources relevant to health and safety to protect employees’ well-being.
  • Manage disputes and investigations upon receipt of employee concerns or reports.
  • Handle any employment-related inquiries from job applicants, existing employees, management (supervisors), and senior management.
  • Maintain employee data and personnel files.
Payroll and Time-Off Management
  • Monitor and manage TrackSmart attendance, timesheets, and time-off requests.
  • Process bi-weekly payroll report through TrackSmart and Excel and update vacation accrual balance accordingly.
  • Handle employee inquiries related to time-off requests, vacation pay, vacation time, and other payroll-related items in a professional manner and resolve any errors promptly.
  • Other ad hoc duties as required.

Qualifications

Experience and Education
  • Post-Secondary education in Human Resources, Business, Organizational Development, or related field
  • 3 – 5 years of experience in Human Resources field, ideally in Generalist capacity
Skills and Aptitudes
  • Professional demeanour and highly effective communication skills
  • Great organizational skills with the ability to interact professionally with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Knowledge and experience with HR principles
  • Strong multi-tasking capability and time management skills
  • Flexibility to adapt to changes in a fast-paced environment
  • Good attention to detail and a positive attitude
  • Methodical and thorough approach to work
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Working knowledge of HRIS or ATS is a strong asset.
  • Familiarity with Atlassian products (i.e., Jira and Confluence) is a bonus.
Certification
  • CHRP designation preferred
