The Nitty Gritty:


Big Viking Games is on the hunt for an experienced Senior Data Developer to join our team! This position is reporting to the Technical Director and is available in either our Toronto, ON or London, ON studio.  This position will develop, implement and maintain data analytics systems, APIs and processes to provide actionable, reliable and timely data to our game teams through Report Developers.


The Duties:
  • Build data infrastructure to enable data self-service by the production team
  • Recommend ways to improve data reliability, efficiency and quality
  • Research opportunities for data acquisition and new uses for existing data
  • Evaluate business tracking needs;  existing procedures for tracking and reporting data
  • Design a robust analytics solution 
  • Consult with game teams to provide self-serve A/B data experiments to improve game design and monetization mechanics
  • Work with game teams to collect analytics requirements and instrument games
  • Work closely with data modelers, business data analysts and BI developers to understand requirements, develop ETL processes, validate results and deliver to production
 
The Must Haves:
  • Three-plus years of experience in data analytics, especially in big data environments 
  • 3 - 4+ years of professional experience with Java
  • Professional experience with Python
  • Application knowledge of Authentication such as OAuth 
  • Data query language knowledge
  • Problem Solving Skills - experience working with product teams 
  • Experience with turning large amounts of raw data into actionable intelligence for business decisions
  • Ability to conceive and test hypotheses based on incomplete data and creating structures that lend themselves to analysis
  • MariaDB knowledge required for extracting data from games Databases

The Nice to Haves:
 
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering is strongly preferred 
  • Experience with Telemetry (Kafka/Flink)
  • Knowledge of distributed database systems such as Cassandra or MongoDB
  • Knowledge of public cloud DaaS offerings such as AzureDB, Azure CosmosDB, AWS Aurora, or AWS DynamoDB
  • Knowledge of private and public cloud infrastructure, containers, Linux, and Windows operating environments
  • Experience developing infrastructure software to slice and dice data, using Hadoop or similar technologies
  • Experience with Scala
  • Linux and network knowledge
  • ETL experience is an asset
  • Knowledge of big data solutions
  • Experience in the gaming industry is an asset!
