Please note, this is a 2-year temporary full-time contract opportunity. Secondments are welcome. Multiple vacancies available. The hours for this position are 7:00am to 3:00pm and 11:30am to 7:30pm, alternating shifts every two weeks.

Responsibilities

The Technical Specialist will ensure the proper operation, preventative maintenance and repair of clinical equipment in the Schulich Dental Clinics. The role will work with the Facilities and Stores Supervisor and other operational, academic and clinical leaders to ensure the clinics maintain a state of readiness for patient care and student instruction, while providing hands-on technical support and assistance in the operation of dental equipment and instrumentation. The role will repair, clean and troubleshoot hardware, equipment and/or instrumentation.  The Technical Specialist will also assist in teaching students to use equipment, and assist other users of equipment (e.g., staff and faculty).

Qualifications

Education:
-    2 year community college diploma in electronics, facilities, or related technical program 

Experience:
-    More than 4 years and up to and including 6 years technical experience with dental equipment repair in field service on various types of dental equipment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-   Familiarity with preventative maintenance techniques and practices
-   Familiarity with blueprints and technical drawings as well as analytical instrumentation operation
-   Communication skills to listen to the complete message, solicit more information as required, and provide feedback 
-   Verbal and written communication skills to describe technical concepts effectively to both novice and sophisticated users
-   Ability to provide solutions and ideas for improvement by using imaginative approaches where constructive thinking and innovation are required
-   Customer service skills to understand customer needs and expectations, with a desire to deliver helpful and reliable service to the University community
-   Decision making skills to resolve complex technical issues
-   Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
-   Ability and willingness to stay abreast of technological developments
-   Ability to provide guidance, support and feedback in a way that is positively received
-   Ability to take responsibility for own work and ensure that deadlines are met and outcomes are achieved
-   Excellent troubleshooting ability along with hands-on expertise in technical support
-   Computer skills with the ability to learn and use relevant software, applications or equipment that achieves required outcomes for the clinic
-   Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
