The department of Undergraduate Recruitment and Admissions' mission is to support Western's mission of providing the Best Student Experience by delivering exceptional Registrarial services from the initial point of student interest in undergraduate programs through to graduation.

Responsibilities

The Data Analyst will be responsible for the creation of useful and accurate reports, analysis and recommendations for decision makers in the Registrar's Office. This involves applying expert knowledge of the academic structure at Western, relational data bases, and statistical analysis to extract and organize the relevant data in the most informative way possible. The Data Analyst will also assist in the coordination of special projects related to data capture and reporting. Using student admission data, the Data Analyst will make recommendations to the Manager, supporting their priorities and those of Western's strategic plans.

Qualifications

Education:
-    Undergraduate Degree in Business, Math or Science with exposure to statistical methods and data analysis 
-    Master’s degree with emphasis in statistics and data analysis is preferred 

Experience:
-    2 years' experience in data analysis and reporting including working with large data sets, data visualization and statistical measures
-    Demonstrated experience with Oracle (PeopleSoft) applications and tools or similar enterprise software
-    Previous experience working in a University or Post-Secondary environment with exposure to query, data management and reporting would be an asset
-    Experience with PeopleSoft, SAS, Query is preferred
-    SPSS, SQL, or Access would be an asset
-    Previous experience with project management would be an asset

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-    Demonstrated ability to retrieve, organize, analyze and report on sizable amounts of data
-    Ability to deal with data anomalies such as missing values, outliers, unbalanced data and data normalization.
-    Ability to produce concise and accessible analysis of complex data through the effective use of charts and tables
-    Knowledge of key statistical concepts and methods essential to finding structure in data
-    Knowledge of secure data transfer protocols
-    Knowledge of systems analysis, data storage and information retrieval techniques
-    Knowledge of diverse methodologies to get insight from the data 
-    Knowledge of project management tools and methods
-    Excellent problem solving and analytical skills with demonstrated ability to research/investigate issues and resolve problems
-    Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively interact with technical and non-technical users
-    Positive, outgoing attitude with genuine customer service orientation
-    Ability to establish and build healthy working relations and partnerships with clients, peers and external stakeholders
-    Self-motivated multi-tasker with strong organizational skills
-    Ability to work well under pressure and use good judgment in assessing difficult situations
-    Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office suite, with advanced skills in Excel
