About Us

The Office of the Registrar is dedicated to helping our students achieve their academic goals by providing to the Western community an array of integrated student-related services in a confidential and professional environment.

The Web and IT Team aims to support registrar services by championing complete support and maintenance, enhancing information and knowledge-based management, improving efficiencies and system design, and assisting in holistic unit reporting and analysis. The Team creates and manages websites and web services for units within the Registrar's Office and other units on campus (e.g., Student Experience, Western International, Faculties) working with the large Enterprise IT systems, including Peoplesoft HE, Peoplesoft HR, Western’s LMS, Laser Fiche, Microsoft, and Salesforce. The Team also values collaboration with other departments across campus on service outcomes for Faculty, Staff and Students.

Responsibilities

The Web Developer (Full Stack) is responsible for the architecture, development and design of web based software, services and modules to deliver online services for students, staff, and faculty and to support staff in improving efficiencies within the Registrar’s office. Ths includes leading projects to define, develop, test, analyse, and maintain website, web services, and software applications to ensure functionality and efficiency needs are met. The Web Developer (Full Stack) creates relational databases, designs systems, and identifies opportunities for technological and process improvements, while working with existing campus technologies (e.g., Peoplesoft HE, Peoplesoft HR, Western’s LMS, Laser Fiche, Microsoft, Salesforce, Marketing Cloud, etc.) to ensure units are achieving maximum benefit from continuing IT investments. In addition, the role collaborates, provides advice, and coaches on matters related to Web and IT services. 

Qualifications

Education:
-    Computer Science or Software Engineering Degree or Diploma 

Experience:
-    Two years programming experience
-    Three years programming experience in an academic environment is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-    A working knowledge of git, server software, PHP, PeopleSoft, Oracle, Cold Fusion, Java, SQL and AJAX.
-    Demonstrated ability to apply creativity, innovation and resourcefulness to daily work
-    Excellent verbal and written communication skills and confidence dealing with all levels of an organization (technical and non-technical users)
-    Customer service skills with a desire to achieve results in a professional and timely manner
-    Ability to establish and build healthy working relations and partnerships with clients, peers and external stakeholders
-    Proven ability to multi-task and prioritize with an eye to consistently producing high-quality work and meeting deadlines
-    Ability to provide solutions by using imaginative approaches where constructive thinking and innovation are required
-    Project management skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and perform well under pressure
-    Competency to maintain confidentiality and treat sensitive information with discretion
-    Ability to apply critical thinking to evaluate information and make appropriate decisions or recommendations
-    Ability and willingness to employ a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and making decisions
-    Attention to detail with an ability to retrieve, audit, analyze and synthesize sizable amounts of data, while ensuring that information is accurate and comprehensive
-    Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently and follow through on work assignments
-    Problem solving skills with a sense of urgency in resolving issues and getting tasks completed
