Job Description

Site Reliability Engineer

We’re looking for a fast paced, ambitious, informal, nerdy (whatever you define yourself as) colleague to join the team!  Whether your background is in software development or cloud management, you are passionate about enabling development teams to be self-sufficient, effective and joyous.

Through this job ad, we will give you an introduction to the world of Trackunit, how we see things and why you should choose us from all the other exciting journeys out there (We’re a tiiiiny bit biased though).

We’ll try to keep it short and sweet!

Let us give you some context - coming together to connect construction

In Trackunit, we’re committed to construction - one of the largest industries in the world. Over the past two decades, Trackunit has been pioneering technological progress within construction. Today, we are not only a leading IoT provider (Internet of Things) but a thought leader, supporting and driving the agenda for an entire industry on a global scale.

We believe in taking a people approach in everything we do. Being human-centric is not restricted to our products - it’s a way of life at Trackunit (I will get back to this). We’re proud to be a truly global team that puts our people first. Our colleagues get together in hubs spread across the globe, but we embrace the idea of working remotely and in environments that inspire you. Everything we do, we do it to eliminate downtime and build the most useful industry for the world.

Why you should choose Trackunit

  • A place and a community in an agile growth SaaS business with a start-up mentality and with possibilities to grow internally in the company.
  • Great personal development opportunities through i.e. training, coaching, and mindfulness. I know that personal development probably means a lot to you - and it should! That’s as important to us and we facilitate it through impact conversations, where we together shape a learning path and 1:1’s with me, your nearest manager.
  • International environment with regular check-ins with the whole company.
  • Social events across teams, departments and borders. We just got back from our company trip to Italy in June - four days packed with fun, laughter, team-building, activities and much more!
  • Continuous learning of emerging technologies and industry trends.
  • With locations in the hearts of London and Kitchener, we offer you a flexible setup with the possibility to work from one of our locations or remotely from anywhere in Ontario.

In this role, your main objectives will be:

  • Streamline and improve development workflows across all Trackunit hubs, though primarily focused on North America.
  • Understand the development tools and practices used across engineering. Not just for API development, but for firmware, analytics, mobile and frontend.
  • Standardize across all hubs to improve collaboration and avoid multiple solutions for similar problems.
  • Build a community for developer productivity that design and implement improvements for our SDLC.
  • Build a roadmap for developer productivity improvements and prioritize the different initiatives according to effort and impact and drive implementation.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing through documentation and presentations/workshops.
  • Help introduce/build golden paths in development.
  • Provide input for the tools section of the Trackunit tech radar.

While you may not have experience in all relevant areas, you can contribute in a significant way to the following team responsibilities:

  • CI/CD and automation
  • One or more of these tools/frameworks: Ansible, Terraform, Docker, CircleCI
  • Container Orchestration like Kubernetes or AWS ECS
  • Message Queue technology like Kafka or Kinesis
  • Alerting, monitoring, and observability, using tools/technologies like Pagerduty, Prometheus, AlertManager, Humio, Uptime, Grafana
  • Security management using tools like Okta, IAM, Rapid7, Snyk
  • Cloud networking (AWS VPC or Azure VNet), VPN’s, DNS, load balancing and firewalling
  • Database and server management of systems such as SQL, PostreSQL, Cassandra, Tableau

What happens from here - overview of the recruitment process

We go through a process including:

  • Meet and greet - likely on a virtual videocall. Here you will meet the hiring manager and a colleague from our People & Talents team, and we’re looking forward to it!
  • Personality based interview. You will be asked to fill out an online personality assessment (we use Hogan) prior to the interview. In the interview, you will first of all get feedback, but the aim is just as well to have a dialogue about what you thrive in, what we offer etc.
  • Assignment specific interview. Based on the learnings from the process you will be given a case to prepare. You will present the case to the hiring manager, a senior manager, relevant new colleagues and the People & Talents colleague. Preferably in person.
  • Offer presentation and walk through.
