We are looking for a Senior Technical Support Specialist Network.

 

Role Description

The Secured Network Canada Organization comprises of 3 teams i.e. 1-Network Planning & Governance, 2- Network Deployment and Automation and 3- Network Operations & Support teams. The primary responsibilities of these 3 teams are as follows:

  • Cloud: On prem and Cloud Hybrid infrastructure management, operations, and support

  • Incident management: incidents from priority 1 through 4, always on the front line to respond to service outages, implementing break-fix ensuring the service is restored within the committed SLA. 

  • Problem Management: permanent resolution after the break-fix implementation.

  • Change Management: All changes that are stemmed either during the incident/problem management process, or direct requests from various business units. 

  • Network infrastructure deployment: Ownership of the new infrastructure deployment from Design Engineering team after the network design and initial 15% of the deployments are completed.

  • Vendor Management: Managing the vendor from both incident management and Maintenance support perspective.

  • Patch Management: Managing and maintaining approved software codes on all network devices and apply patches in a timely manner to keep up to date status.

  • Vulnerability Management: managing and maintaining a thorough check on all announced/found vulnerabilities and applying appropriate solutions to mitigate or lower the vulnerabilities impacts.

  • Management and maintenance of various Secured Network KPI Dashboards

  • Process and Procedural document: preparations/presentations and applying practices.

  • Inventory Management (Deployment, Decom, New Purchase): maintaining up to date reports.

  • Secured Network Device Hardening and Compliance: Participating and maintaining a healthy practice of structuring and applying the Network Device hardening and checks through Dashboard.

  • Network Risk and Audits, processes management, evidence creation and managing/attending deliverables to Internal and external audits.

  • DevOps / Automation: Participating in creative design and implementations and promoting DevOps practices.

  • Network vitality deliverables – Ongoing review and assessment of the network stability, steady-state hardware and software upgrades to improve network stability and resiliency.

 

This network connects a primary data center with multiple Canadian head offices and hundreds of regional offices. Our technology base includes:

 

  • Cisco ACI

  • Cisco Nexus Switching & Routing

  • Cisco/Checkpoint Firewalls and VPN

  • Internet technologies (DNS, SMTP, OSPF, etc)

  • Radware & F5 Load balancers 

  • IDS/IPS

  • DDos

  • Solarwinds/ServiceNow tools

  • New technology implementations

  • Cloud infrastructure

 

What you will do:

  • Maintain and support 7x24 Canada Life secured network infrastructure, this includes all data centers, head offices and Canada-wide remote offices. May include evening and weekend pager support on a rotational basis as and when required.

  • Build, deploy and operate the enterprise-wide network following the industry standard design and support best practices.

  • Documentation of operational and recovery procedures

  • Provide technical expertise to projects and support teams with emphasis on constructing solutions through integration of infrastructure and applications including 3rd party products

  • Support the development of implementation strategies and plans including identification of technical work packages, dependencies, estimates and schedules.

  • Security: Facilitate and provide your support in maintaining and building security practices as per Canada Life Standard practices

  • Cloud: Managing and maintaining Cloud integrations and providing support in troubleshooting and problem management.

  • Data management and analysis: Developing and analysis of various data reports in support of vendor device contracts, Security evidence documentation, Device standard configuration and security hardening documentation and managing/maintain of various Network Dashboards.

 

Who you are:

  • Degree/diploma in Network technology related discipline or equivalent combination of education and technical and analytical experience

  • 5 to 7 years of experience in managing, implementing and operating Network technology infrastructures in corporate industry.

  • Cisco, F5, Checkpoint and/or Radware technologies knowledge, training/certification would be an excellent asset.

  • Excellent analytical, documentation and problem-solving skills.

  • Proven ability of following ITIL best practices on incident management, break-fix, permanent resolution, problem management, change management, root cause analysis, etc.

  • Solid communications and interpersonal skills

  • Proven ability to write effective documentation that is clear and meaningful.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment spread Canada wide.

  • Ability to script/automate Network tasks is an asset.

  • Creative thinking and managing initiatives in an effective manner.

  • Effective internal consulting skills with a strong customer service orientation

  • Attention to detail and effective planning and organizational skills.

  • Ability to troubleshoot complex network issues and perform performance and capacity planning.

  • Exceptional in facilitating change management and driving results

  • Provides training and mentoring to foster juniors where required.

  • Security: Skills and understanding of Security aspects of Networks and able to perform duties in line with defined security standard practice as per Canada Life definitaions.

  • Cloud: Knowledge and understanding of cloud Networks and its related offerings

The base salary for this position is between  $68,700 - $103,200 annually.  This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).  If you are selected to move forward in our recruitment process, your recruiter will be able to discuss additional details of our total rewards program with you.
