Position Overview:

As a crucial member of the EdTech Lab Team, the Learning Experience Designer (LED) plays a vital role as both an individual contributor and team member in developing and sustaining online and blended learning content and experiences for the Ivey Business School. With a proven track record in creating transformative learning experiences and innovative perspectives on the future of management education, they demonstrate a passion for higher education and a deep understanding of the foundations of the Ivey Business School and how to design higher education courses.

Working collaboratively with the EdTech Lab leadership, team members, Ivey Faculty, and Staff, their responsibilities include scoping, planning, and executing educational technology solutions, standards, and projects for both degree and non-degree programs. As well as, developing best practices and structures when it comes to efficient and effective course design processes.

Successful management of these projects, spanning various School and non-school areas, requires exceptional project management skills, stakeholder consultation, quality control, and communication planning. LEDs will also provide training and guidance to Learning Experience Specialists on the team, ensuring they feel confident to follow the procedures and structures of designing courses developed by the LED team.

The primary objective is to apply learning principles that aid internal and external clients in implementing innovative programs. This involves tasks such as requirements gathering, scoping, testing, training, implementation, and post-delivery maintenance and support. The LEDs goal is to offer forward-looking guidance to all Ivey stakeholders, enabling them to translate pedagogical objectives into cutting-edge learning solutions. Achieving this requires collaborative efforts with Ivey Online members, Ivey IT, Program and Faculty Services, Faculty Directors and Members, and other Project Owners. LEDs will also collect and analyze data and ensure our courses are always relevant and implement the best practices when it comes to course design. 

Identification and development, of non-degree projects involve close consultation with internal partners like Ivey Online members, Industry partners, Ivey Publishing, Ivey Academy, Ivey Career Management, and Ivey Advancement. LEDs are also responsible for establishing and upholding EdTech's reputation as a knowledge hub for teaching technology best practices. Delivering value-added EdTech solutions that align with the school and department's business objectives and excellence standards is a top priority for the EdTech team.

Key Responsibilities 

Course/Content Creation 

  • Working partnerships with SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) and other Ivey stakeholders to develop highly engaging learning experiences for both the conversion of existing content and the deployment of new content using appropriate learning management tools and technology while following learning design best practices and the processes and procedures developed by the LED team.
  • Using established processes and procedures develop and deploy new programs and projects respecting the educational requirements, assigned deadlines, and resource constraints of the program, project or Ivey Online initiative. 
  • Develop a process for maintaining and migrating existing content in collaboration with SME’s and other members of EdTech Lab.
  • Reliable execution of all content created by EdTech with all products reflecting the excellent standards of the school.
  • Assist with the development and delivery of learner surveys, focus groups, and advisory councils to understand learner needs across all programs/stakeholder groups and apply these learnings to courses developed or updated.
  • Create and lead the development of training/support documentation or session to assist with the delivery, deployment, and maintenance of courses.
  • Develop feedback mechanisms to evaluate the success of a learning program or project, perform analysis of data generated from the feedback mechanisms and respond to the evolving needs of learners and SMEs based on data-driven insights. 
  • Lead or support special projects as required.

 Project Planning & Consulting 

  • Manage a portfolio of assigned projects, take responsibility for prioritizing tasks, gathering resources, and identifying obstacles and potential solutions to ensure projects are completed with high quality and on time, while escalating solutions to the Director.
  • Determine a standard methodology and process for converting in-person learning experiences into highly engaging blended experiences, determining the optimal mix of in-person/online educational content for each experience.
  • Work with faculty members and external industry partners to determine what constitutes high-quality content to satisfy curriculum-level learning outcomes.
  • Engage with and support video production team and Ivey IT when building the components of online activities, implementing learning activities/tasks, determining the effectiveness of developed content, and leveraging LMS capabilities.

Quality, Maintenance, and Review 

  • Follow a set of established quality review practices that are set at a department level. As well, develop testing and QA plans to include SME’s and other members of the EdTech Lab for assigned projects. 
  • Plan and monitor quality assurance testing of all blended learning assets and experiences. This will include monitoring how frequently the course content is renewed.  
  • Ensure compliance of deliverables with all applicable standards, legislation and regulatory requirements, including Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), WCAG, and applicable copyright and privacy legislation at a provincial and federal level of digital content.

Innovation & Research 

  • Maintain active participation in external groups of which Ivey is a member, including attending conferences and meetings as necessary, and communicate back to EdTech Lab and relevant stakeholders.
  • Research and experiment with innovative solutions and upcoming trends in higher education and lifelong learning that would be relevant to Ivey’s strategic priorities in online or blended learning experiences, while also disseminating these approaches to the EdTech Lab and broader Ivey community.  

Qualifications: 

Education & Experience 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in business, education, instructional design, or a related field. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree or have or be working towards a Master’s degree in business from the Ivey Business School, preferred. Business acumen may alternatively be attained through employment with a Business School.
  • 2-5 years’ experience in higher education creating, curating, and/or managing user-facing learning experiences digitally or in-person. 
  • 2-5 years’ knowledge and experience building in learning management systems (LMS) required, ideally for an online or blended program, preferred but not required.
  • Understanding of UI/UX, graphic design principles, and/or front-end design principles considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a highly experiential learning environment considered an asset.

  • Project manager and critical thinker capable of managing and prioritizing multiple projects simultaneously, assuming quality analysis/quality control and auditing responsibilities for own work.
  • Detailed oriented individual who can offer thoughtful review of products and policies and express them in a clear manner; shows professional judgment in formulating and recommending solutions.
  • Digital fluency and familiarity with common software terminology and an interest in learning about new learning design digital products is considered an asset.
  • Attentive and motivated individual with a proven ability to take a consultative approach to build strong collaborative relationships, influence key stakeholders, and gain consensus to meet the needs of the SME and the learner.
  • Ability to take concepts from idea to execution through achieving successful client buy-in, effective communication, and project plan execution.
  • Team player willing to actively contribute to all activities and events related to the success of learning initiatives and the Ivey EdTech Lab.
  • Strong interpersonal and public communication skills, both written and oral, as reflected in the ability to interact in person and online.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience conducting and presenting learner-first focus data analysis to support a business case.
  • Proactive self-learner maintaining professional development to ensure currency with best practices and new innovations in higher education learning.
