We are looking for a Principal DevOps Engineering Specialist.? 

 

The Principal Engineering Specialist will continue to drive Canada Life’s adoption of DevOps with respect to methodologies, practices & culture through the building and operationalization of modern and powerful cloud-hosted applications and services. Utilizing subject matter expertise & industry experience this role will work to evolve and enhance the technology, processes, and ways of working that constitute the practice of DevOps.  

 

The Principal DevOps Engineering Specialist will implement modern automation solutions that are tied directly to business results and in-turn will help drive the modernization strategies across Canada Life through strong partnerships.? 

 

What you will do?? 

  • Foster a modern DevOps framework that can be utilized within the enterprise  

  • Design and deliver modern solutions that are highly secure, compliant, resilient, cost efficient and meet technical, security, and business needs for applications/workloads.  

  • Design and lead delivery across the Canada Technology organization, including delivery of services into a hybrid cloud ecosystem (Azure, AWS or prem) where applicable. 

  • Be the senior technical advisor to Digital Technology in the definition of technical standards for delivery automation pipelines or DevOps processes) 

  • Identify and assess technology opportunities in the development of business cases. 

  • Maintain pulse on emerging technologies and cloud provider options and provide strategic input back into various roadmaps. 

  • Responsible for working and collaborating with the Technology leaders to influence the evolution of practices, processes, methods, methodologies, and standards so these are customer oriented rather than technology oriented and ultimately drive improved customer outcomes/results. 

  • Proactively identify areas and opportunities to use modern application development techniques to enhance customer experience or organizationally within the business units. 

  • Work closely with Security and Risk to contribute/develop new policies and standards. 

  • Responsible to champion the implementation of the above policies and standards into pipelines which will be leveraged across Canada Technology 

  • Proactively identify areas of friction in current deployment processes and drive technical solutions to remove impediments. 

  • Work closely with security and operations to contribute/develop ways to automate application security and health. 

  • Responsible to implement the above solutions into enterprise solutions that scale. 

 

What you will bring?? 

  • University degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent. 

  • 5-7 years of experience working with modern cloud technologies and implementing creative solutions on more than one cloud platform. 

  • Strong knowledge of infrastructure solutions, specifically in relation to cloud programs, platform migration, system security, enterprise directories, and cloud technologies. 

  • Strong knowledge of cloud network topologies and technologies with an emphasis on network gateway devices (ingress/egress) and proven experience delivering cloud services. 

  • Strong knowledge of Continuous Integration Delivery models (DevOps). 

  • Demonstrated experience in communicating and presenting complex information to technical and non-technical stakeholders, both verbally and in written form. 

  • Strategic vendor management and a strong financial discipline. 

  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and influence junior talent.

The base salary for this position is between  $89,800.00 - $155,000.00 annually.  This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).  If you are selected to move forward in our recruitment process, your recruiter will be able to discuss additional details of our total rewards program with you.
