Who is a Director of Financial Planning & Analysis?

The Director of Financial Planning & Analysis plays a crucial role in the oversight of all budgeting and other financial planning activities for the GoodLife Group of companies (comprised of GoodLife Fitness, Fit4Less, Econofitness, and canfitpro).

This role provides high quality financial reporting, analysis and decision support to assist the GoodLife Group senior leadership team with strategic decision making, and through the facilitation of internal and external stakeholder reporting to drive the company's growth and financial performance.

This role is responsible for leading, planning and coordinating the annual budgeting development process, which includes the oversight and administration of the Prophix budgeting and forecasting software platform.

In addition to ongoing monitoring and reviews, it is also responsible for the development and maintenance of long-range forecasting for the GoodLife Group Company as a whole.

 

What will you be doing?

  • Leads the annual budgeting process, through extensive collaboration with senior leadership, the operating banner Finance teams, and department heads to develop, review and report on annual financial expectations
  • Develops and maintains accurate financial forecasts throughout each fiscal year to guide business decisions aimed at improving financial performance
  • Develops and maintains long-range forecasting and scenario/sensitivity analysis
  • Executes and maintains all budget rollups and associated templates, including consolidations, eliminations, and overhead allocations to provide a more accurate view of consolidated performance
  • Review and analysis supporting the monthly financial statement review process
  • Analyses performance by monitoring and analyzing financial results against budget and forecast. Identifies key performance indicators (KPIs) and provides insights into deviations
  • Manages monthly/quarterly and other ad-hoc budget reviews and analysis with assigned business stakeholders needed in order to:
    • ensure visibility to actual versus budget performance
    • maintain accountability for meeting expectations
    • identify opportunities to drive financial performance improvements
  • Supports reporting and analysis requirements related to external lenders and company financing initiatives
  • Oversees capital expenditure budgeting, decision support and reporting
  • Provides financial modeling, data and insights in support of other special projects or ad hoc requests from senior leaders
  • Prophix Software Administration:
  • Responsible for the Prophix budgeting and forecasting software system including administration, upgrades, new functionality configuration and testing
  • Responsible for the development and execution of user training and support
  • Manages direct reports and the people requirements of the Department/Team using provided tools and resources to ensure the successful execution of all key responsibilities and tasks, retention of great talent, and high Associate engagement.
  • Facilitates recruitment of direct reports alongside the Talent Acquisition Department to ensure adequate resourcing based on approved Department/Team budget
  • Leads the onboarding, coaching, learning, development and performance management of all direct reports to ensure a positive and safe working experience
  • Works one-on-one with Associates as needed to evaluate issues and resolve problems/challenges.

 

Do you have what it takes?

  • Post-secondary degree or equivalent experience with a concentration in Business Administration or Finance
  • 4 years previous work experience in senior level corporate finance role, with direct responsibility for corporate budgeting/forecasting
  • 5 years previous work experience in a Financial Analysis or Accounting related role
  • Strong Microsoft Suite skills and abilities; very high level of proficiency in Excel is critical
  • Extensive experience working as an administrator or in a power user capacity with Prophix software or a similar enterprise budgeting/forecasting platform
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the planning and management of the annual budget development process, and company rollup
  • Demonstrated proficiency in development of comprehensive and accurate predictive financial models
  • Demonstrated high level of proficiency in analysis of large and disparate data sets and applying formal research and statistical analysis methods to business problems/opportunities
  • High degree of self-motivation, a positive attitude and the ability to work in a fast paced, ever-changing environment
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills; exceptional analytical skills and business acumen
  • Exemplary time management, planning, prioritization and organizational skills required to work in a predominantly self-directed manner, both individually, and when working with other finance Associates or company leaders
  • Customer service/stakeholder focused, flexible, and self-initiates continued development and growth
