Senior Commodity Analyst/Modeler
 

Location: London, Houston, Denver, Canada & US Remote 

 

Grade: 11 

 

The Team: The Data Science and Modelling group is responsible for developing and automating, in collaboration with SPGCI’s analysts, processes and models that support the production of commodity analytics across the spectrum from production to refining/transformation and demand.  We are a multi-disciplinary team with a range of experience and specialities building solutions in a dynamic, agile manner. 

 

The Role:? S&P Global Commodity Insights is seeking an experienced analyst/modeler who can both translate subject matter analyst expertise as well as develop new insights to the development of commodity-related models.  This role will closely work with a team of Data Analysts, Data Scientists and Analytics customers to implement various analytical solutions and automate workflows. This role will be expected to lead projects, often coordinating and directing the efforts of more junior analysts.  You will often have responsibility for projects from cradle to grave, developing or coordinating work from concept to implementation to turnover/retirement.  Less-senior analysts/modelers with the potential to grow into the leadership role will be considered. 

The Impact: This role has a core impact to our data science and modelling group responsible for enriching datasets and adding value to our analytics content through close collaboration with onsite and offshore teams to deliver Analytics data and modelling objectives. In this role you will gain a strong understanding of various commodities and Platts Analytics businesses to design and implement advanced strategic solutions and migrate the legacy processes into new technologies that enable data governance, automation, data quality monitoring and maintenance.  

What We’re Looking For: We are looking for analyst who blends the ability to understand energy markets with the skills to ability to implement that understanding in a way that leverages modern technology.  

Responsibilities:? 

·        Create commodity models, using predictive modelling and other statistical and econometric techniques. 

·        Understand, implement, manage and maintain analytical solutions & techniques independently. 

·        Collaborate and coordinate with data, content and product management teams and provide analytical assistance for various commodity datasets 

·        Execute with discipline and deliver appropriate documentation 

·        Work closely with various stakeholders to collect, clean, model and visualise datasets. 

·        Extract hidden value insights and enrich accuracy of the datasets. 

·        Leverage technology and automate workflows creating modernized operational processes aligning with the team strategy. 

 

Minimum Requirements:? 

·        Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, or related disciplines 

·        Minimum of 3 years working in the commodity space. 

·        Experience of working on end-to-end analytical modelling projects: problem scoping, data gathering, modelling, insights, visualizations, monitoring and maintenance 

·        Demonstrated ability to build constructive working relationships with various technology partners, stakeholders and other internal/ external users 

·        Experience with data automation and Machine Learning 

·        Strong written and oral communication skills  

·        Experience using SQL, Excel and Python. 

 

Preferred Requirements:? 

·        Master’s degree, preferably in economics, engineering, or similar field. 

·        5 + years experience 

·        Experience working as an analyst in the commodity space. 

·        Experience building high quality solutions and leading processes in an Agile development environment 

 

Compensation/Benefits Information:

S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $100,200 - $165,000. Base salary ranges may vary by geographic location.
