Job Description

Reporting to the Vice President, Head of Reporting, the Director, Internal Controls will be responsible for driving Internal Controls over Financial Reporting assessments for finance processes, which includes understanding the overall financial control environment, coordinating documentation, scoping and testing of finance processes and controls, providing guidance with respect to the adequacy and completeness of controls and processes, identifying and evaluating deficiencies, as well as assisting management in the design of key controls, and providing controls guidance for process and system changes.

 

This role is responsible for leading reconciliation and control specialists to perform internal controls, testing and assessments over financial controls.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overall oversight and management of the Company's Internal Controls over Financial Reporting compliance efforts, including coordination with key stakeholders to ensure that relevant risks are identified, addressed with well-designed controls that are operating effectively
  • Perform annual planning of the Company's Internal Controls over Financial Reporting compliance efforts (e.g., risk assessment, scoping, due dates, etc.)
  • Serve as a SME for controls design for the various initiatives in the Company
  • Coordinate with process and control owners and external auditors for the audit of the Company's internal controls
  • Collaborate with process and control owners for remediation of identified deficiencies, advising them on internal control enhancements or process changes, as appropriate
  • Proactively identify and monitor process and system changes that result from our growth in transaction volume, international expansion, automation of processes, software application changes, accounting integration in connection with acquisitions and other areas of change that have a direct impact the Company's financial statements and related disclosures
  • Identify current control environment and areas of control weakness / gaps
  • Refresh control documentation to meet internal and external auditor needs (e.g., flowcharts, control matrices)
  • Develop detailed test plans, understanding current PCAOB focus areas (e.g., key reports testing, sample size determination, etc.)
  • Lead the vision of leveraging controls to optimize operational benefits throughout the organization through streamlining and automating control activities within financial and IT processes
  • Monitor, manage and communicate on a quarterly basis the control framework and perform the required follow-ups;
  • Monitor and managing on a quarterly basis the certification process and performing the required follow-ups;
  • Collaborate in the documentation and development of controllership processes;
  • Identify and Troubleshoot issues and serve as subject matter expert while working with other functional areas such as, Risk, FP&A and Treasury.
  • Increase the reliability of financial information through compliance of controls (Reconciliations, investigations, account for transactions, communication…) and reporting to the CFO (Balance Sheet Substantiation Reporting).
  • Provide on-going coaching/development and retaining talent.

 

Position Requirements:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA required.
  • Progressive relevant work experience (10+ years) involving product accounting, working with external and internal auditors.
  • Financial analysis skills and experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
  • Strong knowledge of technical accounting (IFRS) and internal control principles.
  • Proficient in MS Office, specifically advanced skills in Excel.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with ability to influence and gain support for objectives.
  • Self-motivated individual capable of adapting to change, managing multiple tasks and continuously evaluating priorities to lead tasks/projects to completion.
