Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Position Summary:
The Immersive Technology Specialist, reporting directly to the Senior Manager, Immersive Technologies and Simulation, plays a crucial role in facilitating the seamless integration, utilization, and development of immersive technologies and experiences at Fanshawe College. This pivotal position involves collaborating with academic departments, Information Technology Services, faculty members, researchers, and instructional designers, while also maintaining immersive technology equipment, ensuring up-to-date applications, and facilitating the onboarding of faculty, staff, and students. The incumbent enhances the implementation and support of cutting-edge immersive technology research and learning experiences.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Content Development and Innovation

Collaborates with internal teams to support the development of in-house immersive technology experiences

Designs, creates, modifies, or sources digital assets for immersive technology experiences

Explore, evaluate, and engage with external developers/vendors for new XR applications

Conducts research on emerging technologies and shares insights with the team

Assists in the planning and coordination of pilot programs to test new XR content in select courses which includes identifying suitable courses, liaising with faculty, obtaining required approvals, organizing training sessions, and collecting feedback for further refinement
Technical Setup and Support

Configures, troubleshoots, and manages immersive technology equipment both on-site and remotely for multiple campuses

Ensures headsets/devices and applications are properly set up and updated

Coordinates device repairs and resolves technical issues related to immersive technology; escalating and collaborating with Information Technology Services as needed

Supports setup and maintenance of immersive technology in research and learning environments

Supports the successful run of XR labs, as needed
User Training and Guidance

Provides expert guidance to faculty, staff, researchers, and students for safe and appropriate use of immersive technology (XR), which includes but is not limited to Augmented Reality (AR), Mixed Reality (MR), and Virtual Reality (VR).

Plans and delivers diverse immersive technology demonstrations, training and orientation sessions as well as workshops to faculty, staff, students and other stakeholders

Assists in setting up and maintaining immersive technology in the learning environment
Inventory Management and Hygiene

Distributes and tracks inventory of headsets/devices loaned to staff and students

Establishes and maintains rigorous cleaning and disinfection protocols
Curriculum Integration and Support, Professional Development and Networking, and Other Duties as assigned
Qualifications:
-
3 year diploma/degree in Immersive Technology, Digital Media, Computer Programming, Game Development, Information Technology, or a related field of study

3 years of relevant programming, game development, or immersive technology related experience which could include XR/VR/AR and/or instructional technology support and/or XR experiences development
Experience in the setup, maintenance, and integration of immersive technologies within an educational/research or comparable environment

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
-
Additional on-the-job training, certifications, or specialized courses relevant to immersive technology is an asset
-
Experience in one or more of these areas is desired: volumetric capture, projection mapping, animation, motion capture, multiuser XR, and AI
-
Advanced understanding of immersive technologies and their practical applications

Able to effectively manage conflict, time and competing priorities is required along with proficient communication and active listening skills
