Responsibilities

The Digital Engagement Specialist will be responsible for developing proactive social media and digital strategies, in alignment with the goals and priorities of the University and Student Experience, including Western’s Strategic Plan. The role will communicate the Student Experience brand story across a variety of digital channels and serve as a consultant to stakeholders within Student Experience and other student-facing departments as appropriate. The Specialist will manage the day-to-day development and execution of social media strategies and digital content within Student Experience, with a goal of fostering brand reputation, engagement and loyalty, and in doing so, will enhance Student Experience storytelling and engagement through digital campaigns, ensuring the latest best practices are leveraged across a variety of digital platforms. The Specialist will also respond, engage and identify influencers to execute content and will work with external vendors to proactively support strategic communications as required.

Qualifications

Education:
-    Undergraduate Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism/Media or other related program
-    Relevant certification (e.g. Facebook Blueprint) is preferred
-    International Association of Business Communicators Designation in progress or completed is preferred

Experience:
-    5 years’ experience in strategic communications or marketing, with experience in digital and social marketing development and planning 
-    Experience in a post-secondary environment is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-    Advanced skills with digital media tools, content marketing and social media platforms
-    In-depth knowledge of social media best practices, processes, trends, and tools
-    Exceptional verbal, written and presentation communication skills and confidence addressing complex situations
-    Ability to apply creativity and recommend strategies for engagement initiatives in response to cultural and social trends
-    Compelling and persuasive communication skills to engage individuals within the University
-    Strong attention to detail and proofreading abilities
-    Ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the organization, and to value consensus as a desired outcome
-    Commitment to ongoing professional development with a desire to take on new challenges
-    Ability to work within a flexible schedule to accommodate the University’s events and activities
-    Ability to produce high quality work while determining own priorities and defining realistic objectives and timeframes
-    Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
-    Proven ability to build both formal and informal professional relationships within, across, and external to organizational boundaries
